For t-shirt day on November 25th. Winning entry will be produced into an offical t-shirt and worn by the band at one gig.

!!!!UK only

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3QTmvn2lH316mhKDNJrZM7M/terms-and-conditions-pixies-t-shirt-design-competition

Deadline is the 23rd.

Annoyingly it's through the BBC. Radio 6 seems to be churning out the tunes these days though, all kinds of music.

Right I'm going to say this and put this right out there, I suspect this whole thing was bullshit.

The whole thing was planned out from beginning to end, they already knew what the winning t-shirt was going to be?

My evidence is this.

1. Black Francis on Radio 6 adverts about it quote "you've got to live it"

2. The winner was already a bit of a twitter celebrity who is travelling around the world in 800 days in a range rover or something. Sounds like fun, if you're a millionarie already.

3. Charles seemed a bit to fast to jump in with "oh yeah? have you ever been to Mongolia? I'd love to go to Mongolia. But maybe they already talked on the phone before and rehearsed the conversation.

Listen to it.

You're worth more than this Mr Charles and the rest of the band if you're reading this. Plus the BBC are about the most insidious global media corporation you can name these days, and who are still covering up the truth about 9/11.

That said, I still love Radio 6. Loads of old DJs from the 80's and 90's and sons of DJ's and there's no boundaries, all forms of music are welcome. It's what we want.

Nice work too. That's weird and freaky. What is it and insect?

I know what you mean about it maybe working better as a poster, for a club night or a specific Pixies gig maybe. As a t-shirt maybe if you colourised the insect and the logo a different colour, or some combination of three colours to make it stand out a bit more?

I'm not sure if the Pixies actually got to see or had time to see most of the entries, way too busy preparing to go on tour I imagine. I think there were people at radio 6 fitering them down to the best ten, or the best three not really sure it was a all bit vague. I think John Robb was one of the judges.

Anyway, clearly they didn't do a very good job filtering them down to the best ones if Andrew Smith's abomination was apparently the most creative design. I'm not even sure if anyone saw mine as you had to send them to Steve Lamacq's email address and there's every chance some of them got lost in among all the other thousands of emails they probably get every day anyway.

Very badly run creative invite, even Talenthouse could have done that better.

Cheers Sprite! And here's the picture Pot (nice pic btw)...

So this place just disappeared for several weeks until now, but apparently it's still been active... #questionmark

Anyway, yeah the winning t-shirt was a bag of shit. Is Charles playing games with us? Or do they not care or did someone at the BBC pick the t-shirt for them for some reason. If that really was the Pixies' choice then they are only discrediting themselves by appearing to have a completely shit appreciation of what constitutes good art.

That t-shirt's going in the bin.

Oh, he used a lyric and replaced the word 'monkey' with 't-shirt', how inspiring. Must have taken all of 5 seconds to dream that one up.

They specifically said it had to be a white t-shirt, and then it was black. They specified 28cm x 40cm and then used up the whole the front of the shirt. Why didn't they just fucking say feel free to use your own creative license etc.. typical crowd sourcing waste of time shite.

I went from not really going to bother to bothering to putting all my thought and effort into every last detail and becoming somewhat delusional near the end that I must be the winning entry because mine was the best. When Charles started talking about nipple chaffing I thought that was a reference to my design, which when presented as two alternatives looks a bit like too upside down boobies.

Of course, it seemed fair enough to surmise that they were already on the phone to the winner while they were playing through to the announcement, and so disappointment also set in prematurely.

Anyway here's mine. Subtle references to various Pixies things and songs, don't look too deep though it's a just a drawing I did a few years ago with the photoshop bollocks done to it.

I also did something else in conjuction with this, and both were worked on during the recent supermoon. This was for this years Turnip Prize, which is supposed to be a piss take of the Turner Prize and the point is to make something really shit. I ended up putting too much effort in and kind of making something that's slightly quite good though and both this and my Pixies t-shirt shared some common dualistic aspects, mainly with space and turnips.

Moonlander. I thought it would be nice to do a wee tribute peice of art crap to David Bowie, and the silly graffiti on the back is also a reference to Dave Bowman from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Quite like the way the little cartoon face I drew does actually look a bit like David Bowie, even though it only took my about 3 seconds to sketch.

p.s. can't view your entry jake3 it's coming up as a download in some weird format?

Miles than the winner Jake3

Here was my entry. It probably works better as a poster but whatever. I have a feeling pixie punk might like it ;)

Who were the judges?

Now those poor bastards have to wear those hideously uninspired and embarrassingly designed shirts at a gig, right?

Sweet Fancy Moses.

Cool. Good luck jake3!

I'm not going to make a huge effort, but I'd like to enter something.

Definitely gonna give this a go!

Now I have an idea using two of those old sketches, Two and three.

The space ship is the dinosaur Pixies and the bird is Paz.

If I can find the fucking time.

Maybe there can be two birds, and the other is Kim. Or three birds and the other two are Kim and Kim?

Remind me.

Don't know why the img links aren't working, links are there.

What about this for a Classic Masher t-shirt design?

On a white background, it was sketched in white and black anyway.

Originality is something they are looking for, and judging by their album covers and t-shirts it's something a bit different but they don't know what really is what they want. I don't have time to do anything, but I suppose I could punt something out that could be used. It's always completely impossible to try to guess what it is the judges are looking for or will pick. In this instance it's directly the Pixies, it's Charles, Joey, Dave and Paz.

You never really know on TH if the artists creating the invite are really judging or even seeing your work, but here they are and that's quite nice. I like that. It's one of the many reasons why I love this band, they have time for their fans to connect in some way that's real

I suppose this has always reminded me of Pixies album art a little. The Geometry of it, but it's just something I did using pencils and a school geometry set. I was always interested in that. That's all it is though. I have some more but it's minimal.

Crowd sourcing is mind field. I wonder if Talenthouse or Creative Allies are a bit miffed about this, I've been hoping for a Pixies/Frank Black one to come up for a while.

For me doing these things has been a creative journey that has resulted in both much creativity and disappointment. But that's not to say it's not a bad thing.

I wish I had more time for this, to at least try and do something. Just to do something.

Because everything needs to have a day now, even though there are way more than 365 things.

21st of June seems like a more sensible day to hold such an event.

Says in the guidelines the t-shirt has to be white, which is a bit lame...
Discoking Posted - 11/07/2016 : 21:34:38
wtf? t-shirt day? what? why?

i looked it up, and apparently international t-shirt day was on the 21st of june.

it's educational

Thanks. I'm not sure I will though, I mean it's highly unlikely I'd win. Don't really have any ideas for it, and busy with other stuff anyway. Would take a lot of time and effort to come with anything decent I think. Good luck to anyone else here who might think about entering..

I'd like to see a Praying Mantis wearing a t-shirt.

Good luck if you enter, Pot.
