Mysterious release listed on amazon.fr:

http://www.amazon.fr/Doolittle-25-Pixies/dp/B00NIUECT4/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-1&keywords=doolittle

Anyone heard about that?

Cool to hear the earlier version of Debaser with "Shake! Apollonia!" -- I'd read about that but didn't know they'd recorded it that way.

i remember when i ordered it, it clearly only mentioned the bonus content on the LP. now the LP says "discs: 3". (however, the description doesn't mention the original album anywhere.)

err strike that; 4ad 3x does have the original album as one of the 3x vinyls

i ordered the 3x vinyl from 4ad but it's yet to arrive, and by the tracklist it seems the album isn't included

Ok, I've finally got the album.

The pre-ordered vinyl also comes with the original album. But it does look a bit like an afterthought. I wonder if it was always the plan to include the original album, or if they decided afterwards to add it.
The two LPs with bonus material are in a gatefold sleeve, each LP in one half of the cover. The original album comes in an extra (single, inner-) sleeve that was simply placed in between the folded gatefold sleeve; in the middle. I don't think I've seen that before. It's a bit odd.

I guess this means all vinyl copies come with 3 LPs, even the ones that were sold as double LPs (like the one I pre-ordered). Correct? Or did anyone get a double LP without the original album?

Something arrived today, but I wasn't home. So I have to pick it up at the post office tomorrow. This could be Doolittle 25. Fingers crossed.

Doolittle’s cleaner, more commercial sound wasn’t lost on Albini, who in an interview a few years later chastised the band. “Their willingness to be ‘guided’ by their manager, their record company, and their producers is unparalleled,” he said. “Never have I seen four cows more anxious to be led around by their nose rings.”

In some ways I admire Albini. He certainly tells the truth about the recording industry, both then and now. Mostly Albini is just a scheming, immature, little prick. He made fun of Doolittle, but he called the album that HE recorded for them a 'patchwork pinch-loaf'. Albini acted like the sexually frustrated nerd he is....he tried, and failed to get into Deal's pants.

Not a good sign that I didn't remember this. I was making plans to get to the store.
How come I can't forget life's terrible moments?

Surprise in the mail today.

Deal said pretty much that in an interview years ago. Pixies love songs aren't 'Ooh, I love you, baby.' Pixies love songs are, 'Kiss me cunt'.

Discoking Posted - 12/06/2014 : 23:30:42
so are there two versions of the LP? a double LP with only the bonus tracks, and a triple LP that also includes the original album?
or is that some misunderstanding, and are all vinyl copies triple LPs?

i also still haven't received my copy. i also pre-ordered.

Some of the "Demo 1" tracks are very different versions to the "Demo 2" and album versions.
They're a real treat.

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

It does beg the question then: Why didn't they include ALL of the "Demo 1" recordings and ALL of the "Demo 2" recordings? Why hold back? Now, there is material on 'Ecstasy' that has need been officially released and some "Demo 1" versions of songs that have not been released. Looks like we're going to get milked again somewhere down the line. More importantly, how come my copy hasn't come in the mail yet. I pre-ordered.

and here we were thinking there was nothing new in this package...

For 'Wave' (demo 1), it has a completely different verse--different lyrics, melody, chord progression, everything (the choruses are very similar). 'Wave' (demo 2) sounds like the version on 'Ecstacy'.

Also, 'Debaser' (demo 1) has completely different lyrics on the verses, some of the phrasing is a little different as well. For the chorus he sings Kim's 'Debaser' line over and over.

Will this be available on blackfrancis.net?
The Champ Posted - 11/21/2014 : 08:35:26
Look closely at the details. The original amazon version doesn't even contain "Doolittle", for no apparent reason. It only contains the demos and peel sessions. I feel sorry for anyone who per-ordered the vinyl release, actually expecting to get a copy of "doolittle."
matto Posted - 11/21/2014 : 05:29:52
anyone know what's up with the difference in vinyl releases? mistake or not?
pixiesmusic and amazon list it as a 2x vinyl
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NIUEC7Q/ref=ox_ya_os_product
and the 4ad site has a 3x vinyl
http://shopusa.4ad.com/doolittle-25-b-sides-peel-sessions-and-demos-double-lp
(except in the URL and item in cart it's called a double lp)
