I was listening to the BF/KS live songs on youtube and realized it was filmed in Silver Lake so I searched if floop was there, and sure enough, not only you were, but it's you who uploaded the vids. smb.

I can’t believe i just noticed this thread!! I know life is busy but i need to revisit my priorities in life! Brilliant work floop and juan valdez! Love it! Huh! Kim Shattuck is great alongside frank.
I have some pixies conspiracy theories that i will post in the appropriate thread so i don’t contaminate this one. Have a great weekend!

Thanks floop. Even though I've only heard it as rough live versions I think I'm in love with Classic Masher. Wonder who it's about.

It is a common mistake to read "azagnos" instead of "anazgnos". Of course then, it would be slightly awkward to call him "nazzie"

Those light renditions were very enjoyable. Thanks for posting them. No Lovely Day offa Trompe but Subba was especially fun. Nice going.

That last song is a new Frank song called Classic Masher. He played it a few weeks ago at The Mint in LA. I dig it.

I'm usually not vid guy but I actually recorded every song at this show, partially because I was comfortably sitting down and partially cuz why not

to give you an idea of how small the place is I'm in the back row. there's like 3 rows

I went to this too. It was great and went way beyond my expectations for what a Black Francis/Sketch-improv show would be like. I got the impression BF & John Ennis knew each other from Boston times, or maybe just bonded over their common origins - they had a real easy rapport. Frank did a long, very funny monologue about his cousin slaughtering a pig on LSD and nearly burning down five towns (among many other things), and that monologue served as the basis for four or five chunks of improv - if anybody's seen ASSSSSCAT! at UCB, it was a pretty similar format. As Floop said Frank had a non-speaking part as "the sarge". He also did a fake interview sketch with Natasha Leggero playing a bubble-headed youth music reporter who had no idea who he was. In between all the improv segments he would come out and do Pixies tunes with Kim Shattuck. It was really fun to see this in such intimate quarters - the two of them were leading singing-alongs, trading off lines, doing crowd work almost. Really off the cuff, but musically solid.

he played a sergeant along with Ennis who were playing cops from Boston who were busting some kids for doing lsd and killing a pig at a party in the woods (that's the best description I can come up with) His role was quiet boss so he didn't have to speak. He seemed to be enjoying the whole thing

not gonna ruin surprise but he played something off Trompe

also a cover song that the pixies covered for a b side

Thanks for that. How was Frank in these sketches? Was he playing characters or just himself? Also which of his songs did he pick for this kind of show? I'm curious to know. Would be good to see those iphone vids.

that was definitely the most unusual Frank-related show i've been to (aside from the Pere Ubu performance art thing way back when). it was awesome.

was basically what i thought it might be, a mix of comedy and music. some really funny comedians, some sketches (some that Frank was a part of) and then performances. Frank did 4 or 5 songs with Kim Shattuck of he Muffs. some of these people i had never heard of, but some i was like "oh, it's that guy". Kyle Mooney was in it. like his comedy (he's this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lItkr3MR1I4 ). Tim Heidecker's wife was a part of it too

never heard of John Ennis, the host. sounds like he is friends with Frank, and that they take morning hikes together a lot. didn't sound like he was joking. not sure if that means Frank has been spending time in LA or what. i guess they (group of comedians) do this Love Buckets thing every week . goes to show what i know

i took some crappy iphone vids of the music segments. doesn't look great but does not sound too bad. will upload when i have time

really glad i decided to go. i guess Frank hangs out with a lotta comedians

happy easter

ps, the Love Buckets thing is a non-profit organization so money from shows goes to charity. pretty cool
