Hey Brian,

You should add Whiskey in Your Shoes to DW.

He did play Superabound, I've heard it! :)

I have to really get back on this. And actually chipahoy, he recently played "Whiskey in your shoes" so that album has now been hit as well.

Attn Brokenface: Your confirmed setlist breakdown missed Superabound from the Salt Lake City Show (file under TOTY). I wonder if he really played it in an acoustic set?!?! I haven't seen it in any other setlists.

Also, it is odd that in the interview from Indy Music Scene, he mentions Devil's Workshop as one of his favorite recordings, yet no songs from that album on the tour thus far.
fbc Posted - 08/28/2006 : 07:18:57
Have you heard about Big Red!

W'hoo!
moonruler Posted - 08/24/2006 : 09:36:09
yep, 3 bucks. i must admit it would have been hard not to laugh at the crying lady, while feeling her pain at the same time, of course. 8 dollars is outrageous. i was happy to find something to drink under $5 and pbr is better than bud anyway. and i do mean bud the beer.
mostasteless Posted - 08/23/2006 : 17:50:49
peebers go for 3$ in there? Thats actually not that bad...or maybe ive just been going to the Tweeter center too much...

On a side note, when I was at a CSNY show the other day, a lady cried over spilling her full, 8$ beer. Good stuff.
ATBNG Posted - 08/23/2006 : 17:18:26
Yeah - I get those two songs mixed up a lot. As soon as I hear that "heroine" that sounds like "parry the wind" to me, I go astray.

moonruler Posted - 08/22/2006 : 12:24:11
i was not remembering hearing parry the wind and i do remember adda lee, so that makes sense. thank you, i was thinking i had more 3 dolla pbr than i should have.
Broken Face Posted - 08/22/2006 : 08:29:00

I wrote down the setlist for the Beachcomber show as it progressed, so this is correct and in order (I think ATBNG confused "Adda Lee" for "Parry the Wind"):

01) Headache (aborted)
02) Los Angeles
03) Mr. Grieves
04) Horrible Day
05) Song of the Shrimp
06) Nadine
07) Bullet
08) Kicked in the Taco
09) Headache
10) Dead Man's Curve
11) The Water
12) Fitzgerald (aborted)
13) Western Star
14) Cactus
15) I Burn Today
16) Sir Rockaby
17) Six-Sixty-Six (acapella)
18) Where Is My Mind?
19) Adda Lee
20) Brackish Boy
21) The Swimmer
22) All My Ghosts
23) Wave of Mutilation
24) (I Want to Live on an) Abstract Plain
25) Living on Soul
26) Sing for Joy
27) Massif Centrale
28) Two Reelers
29) I'll Be Blue

Also, the date of the show should be changed to the 18th.

mostastless i have to agree with you on paley, i couldnt get into him at all

The Truth Is Out There
mostasteless Posted - 08/20/2006 : 10:37:30
ATBNG - you thought Paley was great? I couldnt get into him at all. I didnt know who it was until after his set, when I saw his name on the amp, and I couldnt believe it was him! But, I was also stuck outside the venue, right behind those big windows behind the stage, and so I couldn't hear his words too well. Luckily, a few cool dudes opened most of the windows for me before Frank's performance, so I could hear that perfectly. I actually had a pretty great view as well, a few people left their spot inside the venue to come watch with me outside.

The whole show was friggin great beyond words. That 'Ill be Blue' was one in a million, while Western Star, Two Reelers and Massif were all I needed, the rest waS just a bonus. I think the solo acoustic crown has now been passed from Dylan, to Neil, to our friend Frank.

Beachcomber: August 18, 2006 (out of order)

(Soundcheck: Fitzgerald)

Incredible, incredible night and show. Frank was beyond terrific, and the Beachcomber rules. It was an amazing opportunity to see this show.

Headache started the show; he dropped his pick after a few chords and then said he had to change gears

Headache
I Burn Today
Bullet

Reid Paley opened and played I'm Not Dead (I'm in Pittsburgh) among his dozen or so songs. Paley was great.
fbc Posted - 08/17/2006 : 12:54:29
I do think with a full band Frank doesn't have to please the crowd (if he ever does) because the noise generated would leave them with no choice but to listen. The amount of talking i've heard during his solo performances, you'd have to drop a few "hits" and "crowd pleasers" just to hold/grab their attention, the ungrateful lot.

There's more confidence to do what you want with amps turned upto 10 with the boys by your side than just shielded only by an acoustic.
Broken Face Posted - 08/17/2006 : 12:38:36
I disagree - i think FB at this point is comfortable playing songs from his whole catalog, and he will continue to pull from wherever he feels comfortable.. Pixies or no-Pixies.

-Brian - http://bvsrant.blogspot.com
Carl Posted - 08/17/2006 : 12:25:10
It's a bit of a surprize, especially that he's bothering to play Pixies songs. I would imagine that the non-solo dates will feature less early material/Pixies fare.

fbc Posted - 08/17/2006 : 12:18:59
i really believed this tour would be dedicated to both Honeycomb/FastMan but i'm blown away by what's being played. even if the two "Nashville sound" records never existed, i couldn't wish for a more favourable selection of songs.
langdonboom Posted - 08/17/2006 : 07:28:04
KICKED IN THE TACO!!!! I will shout if that happens at Southpaw.
Ziggy Posted - 08/15/2006 : 15:11:12
I know they're not part of the tour per se, but worth keeping a note of the Cafe du Nord shows a few months back. A couple more FM/RM songs played then too (and far better versions, arguably!)

Those are some mighty fine setlists, but I would like to see a lot more from FMRM. Hopefully he'll have it in him to play some this fall.
