Can someone (possibibly Franki B) shed some light on the meaning of this song and/or who Adda Lee is? Thanks.

Few lyrics describe a thing so perfectly. It's lines like these that make me adore and respect The Frank.

I don't want to be one of those persons, but I know it matters to some of you.... I'm pretty sure he sings "heroine from the stars".

Yeah, now I do remember a glass of orange juice mentioned in that interview! I'm sure it's around somewhere...I wouldn't have thrown it out.

Anyway, Frank speaks about Adda Lee in an interview I posted here:

http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15926

"'Adda Lee is a fictitious name, but it's a real person. A person I loved very much and who is dead. Normally, I wouldn't write about a topic quite so personal, but it was a short song and it was a nice song and, for whatever reason, Adda Lee crept into it; it became a lyric and felt right at the time. It's a little ditty about a very big thing. I con't think I could ever write an epic called 'Adda Lee'.

He was on the cover of the NME last August, it was the only British Pixies interviewat the time they were playing here. Unless this doesn't count because it was Pixies, but it was only Frank on the cover, and only him interviewed.

I have a load of old magazines that I'll have to sift through.

floop Posted - 04/25/2006 : 21:17:45
i'm crazy period. but yeah, i remember the earthquake one too.

i miss the days when Frank would actually get covers on magazines. When i was in France in 93 he was on the cover of some French magazine and i bought it, of course, even though i didn't understand a word of the interview

There was an interview with NME, it may have been his first as FB, where he was having breakfast and I think he was drinking orange juice. There's also a COR-era one, where he's interviewed in his temporary house while his LA place is undegoing earthquake repairs, I remember he was drinking orange juice in that one!

I'm crazy, remembering shit like this!!

floop Posted - 04/25/2006 : 20:42:08
that's what i meant

really though? i must be thinking of a different one. i remember they talked about how the press always insist on mentioning his weight.

No, no, it was Budweiser! And he was at Heathrow airport!

i have a photographic memory. i remember he was drinking orange juice in the interview (which took place at a train station in England). there was a picture of him with his guitar and a bunch of luggage

I can't find it right now. It is somewhere in the house, though, I'll try digging it out tomorrow. I did manage to dig out some other old article and interviews with Frank...maybe this calls for a new thread for an articles database?! I'm hopeless at resizing with the scanner, but maybe scans of reasonably-sized pictures might be manageable. I could type those up at some stage...

No, I'm quick enough on the keyboard, but I'd have to root it out. Tell you what, I'll go and have a quick look....

kathryn Posted - 04/25/2006 : 18:38:56
Carl, is the article terribly long? Could you type it out? Would that be too much trouble?

Select, which went bust in 2000. I have that issue and a cassette that came free with another issue that has Freedom Rock on it, I think that was the first time I heard anything from TOTY. I can't find the article transcibed online.

Yeah, I guess that meaning ties in with the lyrics. Sad. Marvellous song, nonetheless.

The whole "this topic sucks and is now about pictures of trains" post is only cool the first time. Besides, I think this is a great topic.

Check out the discopedia.... here's what it had to say....

It didn't have any quotes as to the meaning though.

Available on:
Frank Black [Album - March 9, 1993]
Live Thursday June 24, 1993 10PM Eastern [Promo - June 24, 1993]
Guitar Tab: http://www.frankblack.net/tabs/song.asp?song=fb-addalee

Lyrics:
I'm a wishbone
And I'm breaking
Yeah, I'm wishing for Adda Lee

And the lake sings
And the dogs don't
They are quiet for Adda Lee
Adda Lee

I`m sorry and I miss you
And away, I went away
Cause I wished I was away
I wished I was away

A wishing well, of well wishing
And Adda waves away
Adda waves away

Heroine of the stars
I don't know where I am
But I know who you are

Adda Lee
Whaaaa-oh
Adda Lee

And she whispered
And she left me a man
For the world

Oh Adda Lee (x3)
