I hope this topic is not a downer in comparison to all of the new recording excitement. i assure you that i am excited about that and the possibility of seeing the man again in a venue that is not a stadium if he tours to support any of these new recordings.

I just read red mars and am starting green. I know frank likes these books and has made reference to them in songs. What songs contain such references?

If you're looking for which songs refrence the books, as far as I know it was just Big Red (as Jediroller said, it rhymes so must be true). But a running list of songs about Mars is cool too.

Does Jet Black River get half marks?

"Blast Off" also contains some references to Mars.

Off topic: the guy who wrote those books (Kim Stanley Robinson) lives in my town. I think I occasionally see him in one of our coffee shops.

Don't forget Lovely Day:

"You will be my martian honey all the day..."

"Riding down those dry canals..."

The references to a red dress could also be to do with Mars, maybe!

The second thing I thought of was - Kicked In The Taco

Hey
I got kicked in the taco
There's a brewing sirocco
On the planet of Mars

Then I thought of the Carolina Panthers.

I think "Big Red" (on Teenager of the Year) is the song. Not sure there were others.

by the way, red mars was amazing. i bought it just because frank said he liked it. then it sat on my shelf for awhile. i didn't like the first ten pages or so but it quickly captured my attention and i absolutely loved it. check it out.
