blasphemer! heretic! cretin! baddy!

i'll post my top 30 (as i wrote up for my weekly rant email i send to friends, family, and those who love my bitchy, rambling stylee) when i get back to my house - i'm at the library one town over, which i WALKED to (no car, approx. 2.5 miles) in the rain to get a book for my book club (i'm clearly the largest nerd of all time) which the library apparently lost. but i refuse to walk home in the rain, so i'll spend the $7 on a cab and then go sulk with a glass of wine. i would usually sulk with food, but new year, new diet. i hate myself

This is a bit better I think...

No I don't even remember the screaming trees to be honest with you, as a kid the only real access to music I had were my parents vinyl (which got forgotten post divorce so I abused terribly) dads REM tapes which he copied for me, the odd sonic youth tape that landed in my grubby little mits and that crash test dummies one I had.

Seriously.

Oh that and erasure. Odd child.

I have a tough time with this thread because Brian's new supa-dupa
kitties are blinding me.

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank

The Walkmen's first album is called "Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me is Gone" and it's quite good too. Faves are "We've Been Had" and "Wake Up".

I'll check out the Mark Lanegan as soon as possible, thanks for the link. Were you a Screaming Trees fan? I never got into them, but I only heard a song or two back in the day.
n/a Posted - 01/03/2005 : 12:48:19
I have two walkmen albums, how is that? I don't even know where this other one has come from, it doesn't have a title on it or anything but it's the walkmen alright.

Sure abuse the thread, I am open to that sort of going on I like rambly

oh and MARK LANEGAN BAND - BUBBLEGUM for this I owe young Nicole a BIG DRINK because it ROCKS.. see how excited I am.. look at my capitals! Very cool* very sexy very nice.

*The right sort of cool by the way

You can preview the album here: http://www.smokecds.com/cd/35786 and if you're going to listen to any of them I'd go for wedding dress, scratch that the clip from that isn't the best, hang on.... I'l listen to them all

I have to think about other music that I liked. Did I like any. hmmmm. No I did, I think Bows and Arrows is worth getting as is Franz Ferdinand which was great. I do need to think further though, oh Kings of Leon if you like that sort of thing was good.

Nice punning there mister cult, vovat would be so proud!

Also, I would add Polyphonic Spree's Together We're Heavy to that list. Anticipating for 2005:

The Various & Many FB releases.
Spoon's new album.
New Shins Album
New Unicorns album
ROTS Soundtrack
Maybe our own album <crosses fingers>

I wouldn't argue any of that list though I really didn't care for smile and haven't heard the Futureheads yet. Gotta say I was pleasantly shocked to find myself liking Modest Mouse.

speedy_misspeller! Zing!

On a less Carolyn related note (cause she smells like cheese. expensive cheese), let's make this thread into a "Top Albums of 2004" type thread. If I may, tre.

Mine would go something like this (not ordered):

The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Brian Wilson - SMiLE
Interpol - Antics
The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows
Franz Ferdinand - S/T
Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
Wilco - A Ghost Is Born
The Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat
The Futureheads - S/T
Carolynanna Posted - 01/03/2005 : 12:24:45
Nice try there speedy_misspeller.

Carolyn - go to http://www.bowsandarrows.net and you can listen to some songs from the album. If you can get your speakers to work!

Also, everyone must check out their free Christmas song "Christmas Party". It's tre bon.

Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 01/03/2005 : 11:16:23
I agree with Tre, the album as a whole is not that great. It's not exactly bad, it's just that there aren't many standout tracks like The Rat. It's a 'Try Before You Buy' album.

Help me! He keeps making me post!

Carolynanna Posted - 01/03/2005 : 10:49:22
So are you guys saying this is an album to get or not???

I was really disappopinted with the album, there seems to be a lot of great singles about that come from less good albums, I've been tricked into that a lot this year

"the rat" is one of those songs that the first time i heard it i thought "i either hate this or love this" and i decided that i love it and i haven't looked back - the album is really growing on me

The Rat, New Year's Eve, and Little House of Savages make me very happy.
