The Pixies are currently mentioned on the scrolling headlines at the top of the BBC's news page (news.bbc.co.uk). Now thats something I never thought I'd see. Does that mean they're mainstream now?

ah, for some reason it went to the world edition, having never done that before.

Its there on the Uk edition. "Dido, Muse and the Pixies headline the V festival", or similar. Doubt it'll be there much longer. And in the article itself they don't even get a mention worth mentioning...
