Check this out:

The new album, entitled 'Has Been', has been written and produced by Ben ‘Ben Folds Five’ Folds and features Shatner’s own…. timeless… vocal… delivery… being put to use on a remarkable collection of songs including a cover version of Pulp’s ‘Common People’ with Shatner dueting with ‘80s singer songwriter Joe Jackson.

Now Xfm can reveal that the record also includes the song 'Trying' performed by Shatner, Folds and acclaimed alt rock singer Aimee Mann and a track called 'I Can't Get Behind That' sung with bull-necked metal thug / new renaissance man Henry Rollins.

Lemon Jelly have also submitted the song 'Together' for the onetime Captain Kirk to sing.

"It is a great record and it is really worth going out and doing some shows in major cities," Folds told Billboard, before adding that Shatner was "not a musician at all. But he is still part of the music. I've never heard a record quite like it."

William Shatner's album 'Has Been' will be released in October 4.

The full tracklisting is:

'Common People' (with Joe Jackson)
'It Hasn't Happened Yet'
'You'll Have Time'
'Trying' (with Ben Folds and Aimee Mann)
'What Have You Done'
'Together' (with Lemon Jelly)
'Familiar Love'
'Ideal Woman'
'Has Been'
'I Can't Get Behind That' (with Henry Rollins)
'Real' (with Brad Paisley)

It also has interview bits.
I wish he would sing a bit more rather than speaking.
HAHA, "Has Been" is hilarious.

Well, if you're a big fan of his, put some faith in him and give it a listen. Just take it as a little Ben Folds extra. Also, much as I love Shatner, I don't think he's a great singer. He's just interesting and funny.

I am not dissing shatner, I am sure he is very good but I am a big ben folds fan and prefer to listen to just ben.

A friend of mine was invited to sing backup on a couple of songs on this Shatner album. Bill wasn't there at the time (he had already cut his leads and then split), but my friend told me it was one of the most hilariously surreal experiences of his long career to hear Shatner "singing" in his headphones and try to keep a straight face while working hard to nail his parts.

Has anybody ever seen the '70s footage of The Shat on The Mike Douglas Show with Patti Smith (he sings, but not with her), or the Dinah Shore Show?

Fucking priceless.

I don't care what anyone says, I like the man. I think he used to come across as an ass and then, when he realized he was alienating people, he turned himself around. I think he's a standup guy now. There's another track for download!

"I am not a Starfleet commander, or T.J. Hooker. I don't live on Starship NCC-170...[some audience members say "one"], or own a phaser. And I don't know anybody named Bones, Sulu, or Spock. And no, I've never had green alien sex, though I'm sure it would be quite an evening. [Pomp and Circumstance begins playing] I speak English and French, not Klingon! I drink Labatt's, not Romulan ale! And when someone says to me 'Live long and prosper', I seriously mean it when I say, 'Get a life'. My doctor's name is not McCoy, it's Ginsberg. And tribbles were puppets, not real animals. PUPPETS! And when I speak, I never, ever talk like every. Word. Is. Its. Own. Sentence. I live in California, but I was raised in Montreal. And yes, I've gone where no man has gone before, but I was in Mexico and her father gave me permission! My name is William Shatner, and I am Canadian!"

—from a Just for Laughs appearance, it is a parody of the popular Molson Canadian Commercial entitled "I am Canadian".

his version of rocket man is great too! lol! the guy's a god! his performance in 'free enterprise' was enough to establish that, completely taking the piss out of himself!

Imaginary William Shatner : I think I ought to tell you that that, uh, Aryan youth is gonna kick you into oblivion.
Young Robert : But what about in "Arena" when Kirk fought the Gorn? That giant lizard monster was three times as big as him!
Imaginary William Shatner : My boy, that was a TV show. I used a stunt double. I always use a stunt double. Except in love scenes. I insist on doing those myself.
Young Robert : Well, what would you do to avoid a fight?
Imaginary William Shatner : I wouldn't dress like a geek. Gold is not your color. Think earth tones.

Young Robert : Well... it was something he said.
Imaginary William Shatner : What'd he say?
Young Robert : You really don't want to know.
Imaginary William Shatner : I really do want to know!
Young Robert : He said that Han Solo was cooler than Captain Kirk.
[Pause]
Imaginary William Shatner : Kick the little fucker's ass.

hehe, maybe you have to see it and be a bit of a sci-fi geek to appriciate the humour...
