Posted - 09/21/2004 : 14:07:24 I was at a friend's house the other day and while I was looking through their CD selection, I saw they had a copy of Television's Marquee Moon. I'd heard really good things, so I borrowed it and brought it home to burn a copy. When I opened the jewel case, to my disappointment, there was no Television. Instead, I found a copy of a CD called Internal Wrangler by Clinic. I'd never heard of them before, so I gave the CD a listen. Was blown away, really great stuff. They toured with Radiohead a few years back apparently. So I was wondering, do any of you own any of their other material, or have you heard any of it? I've gotten mixed reviews, but after an album like Internal Wrangler, I'm really interested to hear what else these guys have written. Thanks.

Posted - 10/18/2004 : 20:19:51 I love the album "Walking With Thee." I never really listened to much of their other stuff, but I'm sure I'd like it all just as much. Great modern band.
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

Posted - 10/15/2004 : 06:53:57 I really dug their first couple of EPs...their last two albums have some stand-out tracks, but just don't hold up to repeated listening in my opinion. Their sound has been too static, they need to start pushing in some different directions because a lot of their songs have started to sound very very similar
That being said, I saw them live once in DC a year or two back, and enjoyed it immensely. I think its amusing that Ade has a small hole in the front of his doctor's mask, for mouth access when he plays the melodica |

Posted - 10/14/2004 : 12:14:57 I've been listening to Winchester Cathedral a bit on Carl Newman's recommendation. Parts of it I really dig, others don't do much for me yet.

Posted - 09/21/2004 : 21:39:24 I have Internal Wrangler and . . . I think that's it. I really like it, but never bothered to check out there other stuff some reason; thanks for reminding me. I've noticed that they play at the Middle East in Boston a lot.

Posted - 09/21/2004 : 15:46:31 The EPs are very similar to IW, IMO. I still like "3 EPs" best of the bunch. I didn't find "Walking With Thee" very exciting and I've yet to hear the latest one. |

Posted - 09/21/2004 : 15:33:27 Nice pictures BLT. A complaint I've heard about all of their material following Internal Wrangler is that it is just too repetitive. Do those EPs sound anything like IW?

Posted - 09/21/2004 : 15:05:54 those silly kids and their masks.
i saw them play on Letterman (or Conan) once and was really impressed (a year or two ago). then i listened to their album at a listening station and it didn't quite convince me to buy it.
hence, i don't own it.

Posted - 09/21/2004 : 14:57:41 I love the first three EPs (available on one album..."Monkey on Your Back" and "Cement Mixer" are classics) and Internal Wrangler. Everything I've heard since then has been a little disappointing. Saw them a couple times and had fun. Here are some photos I took the first time they played in LA: http://www.smashitup.net/clinic/index.htm |
