Is it just me or does anyone else really enjoy foreign pop music? I always have and I'm at a bit of a loss for an explanation. It seems like the same repetitive synth music, but I really dig it. I think it might be because I can't understand the lyrics. Once I understand the stupid shit coming out of their mouths, I can't stand it.

What is some of the best foreign pop you guys have heard?

Near the beginning...the pics of "Alizee" and her hiney and such. The one of her grinning is the culprit.

the beginning? what do you mean apl?

apl4eris Posted - 09/20/2004 : 09:22:20
I think it might be the GIANT picture Homer's Pet Monkey posted near the beginning of this thread.

Does anyone else watch the Korean and Japanese pop music shows (we get an international cable channel that plays them) and trip for free? God, that stuff is horrible no matter what language it's in, but they add a particular edge of utter insanity that tops it all off nicely
Carolynanna Posted - 09/20/2004 : 09:11:55
Primus is not pop.

This particular thread looks fine to me, but I've noticed the "wideness" in other threads too.

only on their latest album - their first two it was almost all icelandic.

i've got 4-5 japanese pop/rock cd's that a guy who i went to ATP with gave us....some really great stuff there...best song is the one called "homo" with the same line of "fuck my ass!" sung in a japanese accent repeated over and over again - rather amusing.

I don't think it's mine causing any problem. It's just a little popeye head and I haven't noticed any problems on my screen as long as I've been using it. Does anyone else have a problem?

Yeah, sorry, just found another thread where you posted and that doesn't have the same problem. I wonder why some threads appear like this.

I have plenty of Scandanavian records such as The Concretes, The Hives, The Wannadies, Bjork etc.

Hey, I used to be a HUGE fan of Mano Negra in the late 80s. These guys have had a considerable influence on the French rock scene - very similar (I think) to The Clash's influence on the English scene in the late 70s.

Know P18? This band was created by an ex-Mano Negra member in the late 90s. If you like MN, you should also like P18, especially their first album, 'Urban Cuban'.

Anyone a fan of Paris Combo or Mano Negra?

Forgot Björk! Add Iceland to my list.

French pop bands are crap but it doesn't mean all French bands / artists are shitty. IMO the best of them is Kat Onoma, which is also simply one of the best rock bands I've ever heard. Their music is a perfect, not to say unique, blend of power and elegance. Another great band - though very different - is The Roadrunners, which unfortunately splitted up in 1995 or so.
Cheeseman1000 Posted - 09/18/2004 : 04:28:35
Bjork isn't Scandinavian. Iceland is a Nordic country, but isn't part of Scandinavia. So there.

I'm almost allucinating with this thread. I supose everybody has music from different countries, but it seems I'm the only one. Mental list of countries:

Spain(obviously), France, Italy, China, Portugal, Romania, Moldavia (I've heard O-Zone are moldavian. Hey!, this is not mine! my sister downloaded it), Greece, Ireland and Wales (In Gaelic), Senegal, Morocco, Sweeden, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, Australia, Jamaica, Cuba, India, Iceland, Finland and (the most) Canada, US and UK.

But, as I said above, I thought it was common.

Hello to her...

Ya, Sigur Ros is foreign - they sing in a made-up language for crying out loud.

I don't have many foreign records looking through - the only ones I can see are Hives and M83. I don't know why that is, really.

Well, you can't say that Primus is a foreign band, it's one of my favourite band, but I think that their music is deeply american

I don't listen to foreign bands except some great french bands or singers (Diabologum, Programme, Gainsbourg, France Gall, Dominique A, Sloy) but I'm french, so... I also listen to some portuguese music (but I'm also portuguese)

Can we consider Sigur Ros as a foreign band?

I have only ever bought one foreign pop album and that was Gourmandises by Alizee. I only bought that because of the track 'Moi.....Lolita'. Boy did that have a dodgy video. Not quite sure how they got away with it.

Alizee is very French, very young and very beautiful and 'Moi........Lolita' is a great pop song. The rest of the album is not so good. I don't know much else about her, perhaps our resident Frenchies know more.

Here are some pictures of her anyway.
