Posted - 09/17/2004 : 04:02:20 Who's got one? What is it? Where is it? Did it hurt so much you passed out or were you tough enough? Did you prep your skin in any particular way and how did you look after it afterwards?
I'm booked in for my first next week - and wouldn't mind a little bit more info than "hurt like hell" and "don't pick at it" |

Posted - 09/18/2004 : 04:26:42 This is all too much for me - am now counting "sleeps" like a kid waiting for Christmas. In some weird way I think I am looking forward to the pain regardless of how much there will be (read into that what you will - maybe it's the whole 12 year wait thing!) Now I guess I just have to bear in mind that I'm probably going to want another as soon as this one is finished! |

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 23:58:54 I've got the flying "P" logo. Had it since I turned 18. Didn't hurt. It tickled. It's on my ankle, though. Is that cheating? There'll be a TMBG one to follow eventually, as well as a Prozac Rat tattoo which I'll get with my bandmate/cousin. |

you would think that after all the songs he has done with just the best lyrics I would have got a great one, "I saw two shooting stars last night, I wished on them, but they were only satellites" nope not that one. "little black cloud in a dress? nope, I love you, I am the milkman of human kindness? nope not that. I could of had any, I was a huge fan I could think of a thousand lyrics, however I asked the guy for "there is power in a union" not major deal but the idiot did "there's power in the union" and as it is wrong I hate it.

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 17:08:42 My friend Tom said that if he ever did get a tattoo, it would be a keyhole on his head.
Another friend of mine was drunk one night, out with a bunch of friends. They decided to head to the tattoo parlor and get impulse tattoos. A few weeks prior to that I had quoted Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Free No. 10" to him: "I'm a poet, I know it, hope I don't blow it." He was a big Dylan fan but didn't own that record, but had loved that line, and had decided to get that as his tattoo. Unfortunately, the tattoo parlor was closed and they never got tattoos that night. It's probably best for him in the long run. Though it's a cool line, it might get old, having it on your body and seeing it everyday.

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 15:57:45 i'm planning on an olde english "guano" across my belly, then a bunch of cover-up on my left upper arm (i have a crappy arm-band) i met this guy that does tattoo work and he seems talented as well as cool. I agree it's tough to find a guy to trust enough to do good work, especially after getting a screwy one already. the guy who did my right upper arm (awesome dragon) died about 6 montrhs after doing my tattoo. leap of faith! |

Ditto! it wasn't bad at all for the one on my belly. |

I pity your boyfriend!
I have two, one is the Chinese symbol for music on my stomach and the other is the Chinese symbol for dragon, with a dragon coming out of it, on my right, upper arm. They are both black. The music one is pretty small but the dragon one is quite large.
The one on my stomach didn't hurt that much and yet it is supposed to be one of the most painfull places to get one. The one on my arm hurt quite a lot. I would compare it to having a hot needle scraped over your skin for an hour. You can bare it, but it still hurts.
As for looking after them, the leaflet that the tattooist will give you will have all the info you need.

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 09:21:37 I have a crescent moon design around my belly button.
It kind of represents my "navel-gazing" philosophical days (i got it when I was 18)...plus my fascination with celestial bodies/astronomy.
I want another one on my left bicep/shoulder...something that wraps around, preferably. I have no idea what yet, though I tend to lean toward simplistic Aztec/tribal designs because I like the way they look. As you can tell, i'm far from a final decision. In time, in time... |

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 08:55:34 The apple and bee refer to my childhood on an apple farm. (and also to the fact that I will always give in to temptation!) and The Bear is the name that my closest friends know me by. All quite simple really. |

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 08:29:48 Oh, how ironic. Or something.
Well, it didn't hurt THAT much. Mine is all black and was long lines, so as they did the loooong parts of the stoke (with the needle) that hurt the most. But pain is relative, and I don't think it is as bad as your brain THINKS it will be.
12 years is a LONG time! I bet you'll be happy with it. Tattoos are fun.

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 07:49:40 Mine will be on my tailbone! I'm having an apple with a bite taken out of it (please spare the the mac logo jokes already), a bee and a scrolly thing saying "the bear". The guy who is doing it is usually booked up about 6 months in advance, but he's had a cancellation and is doing me a favour since we are fans of the same music!
I've waited about 12 years to find the right artist and design so I'm ridiculously excited about this. |

Posted - 09/17/2004 : 07:34:12 I think we did this topic before but I have four. I love them all. None hurt like hell, although the one on my tailbone hurt more than any others, I have been told by tattoo artists that that is the most painful place you can get one.
My biggest and best tip is USE SUN PROTECTION on your tattoo. They fade a lot in the sun and then you start to look like an old trucker. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it's not my cup of tea.
Not sure what else I can tell you. I think people make it out to be worse and more scary then it actually is. What are you getting a tattoo of?
