It's marvellous and indescribable. An orchestra of guitars, accordions, xylophones. A Quebecois singer with a voice strikingly like Bjork. Bits of Neutral Milk Hotel, New Order, and - oddly - Neil Young and early U2. Surreal, anthemic, simultaneously sad and elated, bombastic, overdone and melodramatic in a good way.

Posted - 09/12/2011 : 16:59:20 I saw some local bands play there once, I though they were great and the sound was good too. I also prefer smaller venues, much better atmosphere, you can move around more freely and go to the bar/toilets when you need too. Doorman can be a problem in CV though, any time I have been there the doorman have caused me problems, like refusing entry for no reason, or other people. They wouldn't let my mates into a gig once to see a major band because they thought they were too drunk, I mean who goes to a gig these days and has a few beers beforehand... they missed all but the last 2 songs. Hopefully I'll get in if I get tickets for Yuck though, just make sure I'm not wired to the moon before I get there. |

Posted - 09/12/2011 : 05:32:11 Na, I live near Oban, but came across for the gig. Thought they were probably worth going to see plus went with an old school friend, good to catch up. I quite like Cabaret Voltaire as a venue - probably a sign of my age that I much prefer smaller venues these days.

I'm thinking about going to see Yuck at cabaret voltaire in a few months if I can get a ticket, i think they are a pretty cool band. |

Posted - 09/03/2011 : 14:54:10 Is this the most recent Arcade Fire thread, 2005?
They played edinburgh Castle 2 nights ago. I tried to sneak in, but didn't manage for various reasons. Still managed to get almost to the top of the Royal Mile, saw a bit of the stage and heard them play these two songs, 2 of my favourite tracks. They're a one epic song an album band, one of the best live bands today.
they've hinted at doing an epic Pixies style- we're too big for our own good now split and do their own solo things, either way I hope they at least do one more album. I think they all have a lot of poential as musicians and we might see some interesting solo careers coming out of this band in the future, I predict.

Posted - 03/27/2007 : 10:34:10 Funeral was such an amazing album. So far Neon Bible hasn't grabbed in nearly the same way, but it's still pretty good. It must be pretty difficult to live up to the expectations that an album like Funeral brings. I'll see Arcade Fire in Berkeley on June 1 (two days before my wedding!!!) and I'm really looking forward to that. Actually, there's a lot of great shows coming up in the SF area...
Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in, sorry if I'm out of the flow of the thread. |

Stumbled across this yesterday, while searching their page for some lyrics.
I was really looking forward to seeing them live tomorrow. At least I still have that Kristin Hersh show tonight. ... I hope. |

Arcade Fire cancel European tour Win Butler forced off the road due to illness 2 hours ago Arcade Fire have cancelled the rest of their European tour due to frontman Win Butler's illness.
The band have been forced to axe nine dates because the singer can't shake a sinus infection he has been suffering from since the beginning of the year.
Writing on Arcadefire.com, Butler explained: "I just had to make the very sad decision to cancel the rest of the European tour... Last night in Stockholm I finally pushed my voice and body farther then they are able to go.
"I kept yelling at the monitor guy because I didn't recognize the sound that was coming out the monitor as my own voice, and it took me until the second song to realize that the sound was coming from me. Today I can barely speaker or make any sound, so finishing the shows is no longer possible."
Butler added that doctors have been advising him to cancel shows for weeks, but he has been trying to push through.
"We could not imagine cancelling a show unless it was physically impossible to do," he explained. "We apologise to the fans that have been waiting to see us...wish me luck with the doctors."
His brother and bandmate Will Butler, confirmed the decision, explaining: "Oh boy oh boy was this the correct decision. That Win is sicker than a brick."
The cancelled shows are:
Oslo Sentrum Scene (March 24) Copenhagen KB Halle (25) Berlin Postbanhof (27) Munich Elser Halle (28) Lyon Transbordeur (31) Cologne Palladium (April 1) Utrecht Vredenburg (2) Brussels Halles de Schaerbeek (4) Lille L'Aeronef (5)
According to Arcade Fire fansite Arcadefire.net, ticket holders are advised to get in touch with the promoter directly regarding refund.

I don't see anything too revolutionary or even really that unique about them. Not to say I dislike them, they're definately listenable, but nothing stands out for me. I think Neon Bible is a little bit better than Funeral, but still very average... :/
Ya... Springsteen! I never noticed that! You should blog about how they sound like Springsteen! Did you know David's Bowie and Byrne like them? But they totally don't sound like those guys anymore! Win changed his voice! With surgery maybe! Read all my exclamated thoughts at musicforredudantclones.blogspot.com!

The Arcade Fire's second album, Neon Bible, claimed the No. 2 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts this week, stomping all over new LPs from Daughtry, Relient K and Robin Thicke. According to Billboard, the album sold 92,000 copies this week; only Notorious B.I.G.'s Greatest Hits sold more. That album, which was released ten years after the rapper's death, sold 99,000 copies. This position is miles ahead of Funeral's chart ranking, which peaked at #131. The album also topped the Independent and Rock Album charts. Neon Bible also took #2 in the UK, coming in second to the Kaiser Chiefs' Yours Truly, Angry Mob.
