Posted - 08/26/2004 : 23:07:55 I've heard some good things about My Bloody Valentine's album Loveless, and was hoping that someone here could offer some insight into the validity of that. I'm always looking for something new to listn to and since this album gets so much acclaim, I thought I might try it out. Anyone have anything to say about it?

Posted - 08/31/2004 : 14:45:59 Thats not the point though Shakey, keep up. I definitely agree with the layers thing - the louder you listen, the more there is. There was an insane amount of work put into that record, it almost bankrupted Creation (the record co). Its like parfait in some respects, and everyone loves parfait.

Kevin Shields...my mistake, didn't notice the typo
Shakey- The overall mix of the album can sound muddy because of the amount of distortion involved. But...the louder you listen to it (even better thru headphones) you will hear stuff buried in the mix that you probably would not pick up on otherwise. I just think Loveless is such an awesome example of a 'beauty via chaos' kind of aesthetic that I dig in some noisier stuff (like Sonic Youth's EVOL)...
Yeah, if you enjoy hearing crisp, discernable lyrics in your music then My Bloody Valentine is not what you're looking for |

I was intrigued by this thread so I downloaded a couple of songs from the album,1 or 2 songs sound a bit distorted(Specifically Loomer) are they supposed to be like this or is it just the people I'm downloading it froms fault? Cos I got a couple of copies from different people and theyre pretty much the same...
Distortion is a major part of the game but there's gold buried in them thar hills. |

Posted - 08/29/2004 : 04:04:47 I mentioned this album in the thread about music you listen to loudly. Very seasick pretty at regular volume, but the louder it's played, the more parts you hear. My favorite of the shoe-gazers.
Also, BOSTON RAWKS! Don't look back!

Oh well. They did get their name from the album, so it is kinda related...

Posted - 08/28/2004 : 13:07:13 Listen to a sample on amazon and you'll get the jist of "Loveless" If you like hearing the vocals and/or understanding what they're saying, then don't buy it.
If you like guitars and/or pot, buy it now.

Posted - 08/27/2004 : 10:48:57 Yeah, it's a good album. I own it. Don't listen to it too often, but it's a good album. I like the washy guitars and ethereal vocals.

Posted - 08/27/2004 : 08:03:35 MBV Loveless is a fantastic album...surreal and beautiful. Took me a couple of listens to really get into it, but I now appreciate it for the aural soundscape that it creates. The use of guitar sonics by Ken Shields is abstract, insane, and highly beautiful. If you want something a little more "song" oriented, you should definitely check out 'Isn't Anything' |
