pretty impressive for a first feature, written directed and acted by the same guy.
i never knew i liked Natalie Portman before.

Posted - 12/27/2004 : 11:47:03 I liked it (it's the only movie I saw in a movie theater this year), but I also like Scrubs. I thought it was fairly deep about letting people be who they are (less medication, something BLT might appreciate). |

Posted - 12/23/2004 : 17:07:11 Just saw it. It's not very good. But I'm even more in love with Natalie Portman now. Worth seeing just for her. |

Posted - 12/22/2004 : 13:06:25 I was a little disappointed in this film. There were a few funny moments but a few too many misfires. I didn't see the joke in the girl's brother dusting the TV remote for paw prints. Having the brother in the film at all was pointless. The ending was terrible.
I liked the soundtrack

Posted - 08/28/2004 : 13:12:49 she is a little cutie.
yeah, the film tries to be too "deep" at at times. there were many moments where it was trying to go for the big emotion, and i wasn't feeling it. but then, i have no soul.
my girlfriend said she felt the same way though..
but then there were other moments that took you by surprise (like when they're burying the hamsters).. at times i thought it was trying to be too quirky, for the sake of being quirky. but then he'd bring it back to something real, usually successfully.
but yeah, i'd rather discuss how natalie portman is a babe.

Posted - 08/28/2004 : 13:05:04 Half of it is really funny and interesting, the other half is very awkward and cheesy. Worth seeing though.
I also hate when movies jam a bunch of songs in them just to fill up the soundtrack. It seems like every time they turn a corner, a different indie song comes on.
Natalie Portman is pretty damn good in this. Shows how terrible a director George Lucas is...

Posted - 08/28/2004 : 10:36:13 Battle Royale II (never saw) Near Dark (fun) Lost in translation (very good, if overrated) Igby goes down (i personally hated it, but i don't want to ruin it for you) The man who wasn't there (VERY stylish film. excellent cinematography.. Billy Bob is great as always, and Scarlett Johansson is good).

and one of the things I love about harold and maude is it's feel, even though I've forked out on all these films I now have a harold and maude urge. mmmm, whats the new film called?

Posted - 08/28/2004 : 10:26:18 it's no Harold and Maude. but it does have that feel.
it feels very Wes Anderson knockoff in some ways.. but the characters and the acting are great, so i forgive it.
i saw a trailer for the new David O. Russell film which looks really good, which means it probably won't be.

Posted - 08/28/2004 : 08:13:12 I'm definitley curous about it. I heard an interview with Braff on NPR a couple weeks ago, where he mentioned how this movie was humbly aspiring to be like "Harold and Maude", apparently one of his all-time favorite movies. I can really dig that. |

Posted - 08/27/2004 : 23:03:06 I've already seen it twice and would go see it again right now if anyone wants to go. I think it is a great movie and the sound track kicks ass. It has a pretty quirky, clever sense of humor to it that I can really appreciate. I'm a fan of Zach Braff from his show scrubs and I have to say it is an incredible debut screenwritting, acting and directing film. I give it two thumbs up and serious high-fives. I advise everyone to see Garden State.
