Posted - 08/18/2004 : 09:53:05 I’ve never seen it, Maybe I’ll go there but I don’t know much about it. I think it was a battle site during the Civil War where somebody had a significant victory. I also learned from Pee Wee's Big Adventure that it does not have a basement!

It amazes me that it's downtown, I always imagined it out on the high plain. |

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 16:16:36 Maybe so and I think there was always the idea that Texas would end up joining the United States. Texas back then was bigger than it's current form and included parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Colorado, I think. More trivia: when Texas joined the United States they received the right to fly their flag at the same height as the US flag, unlike other states. I don't know if that still holds. |

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 13:53:37 I used to work with this girl from San Antonio. We were talking about Texas and I mentioned something about losing the Alamo battle, and she looked at me like I was crazy. "We didn't lose!" she said.
How can someone from San Antonio not know the history of the Alamo? I was flabbergasted. So I picked up a nearby tac hammer and bonked her on the head, crushing her skull.

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 12:26:34 I've been to the Alamo and frankly it was pretty small and unimpressive.
The Texans ended up winning that war when they caught Santa Ana (the President of Mexico) and his troops taking a siesta. My 5th grade Texas history class is really paying off. |

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 10:08:41 I saw an episode of King of the Hill where they kept quoting "Remember the Alamo" - What does this mean? Was it an upset victory or something?

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 09:56:43 it wasn't during the american civil war - it was a battleground between texas (when it was an independent state) and mexico. the mexicans won and amerian folklore heroes like davey crockett died there
