I’ve never seen it, Maybe I’ll go there but I don’t know much about it. I think it was a battle site during the Civil War where somebody had a significant victory. I also learned from Pee Wee's Big Adventure that it does not have a basement!

Tell me more.

Across the alley from the Alamo,
Lived a Pinto pony and a Navajo.

It amazes me that it's downtown, I always imagined it out on the high plain.

Everything's bigger in Texas!

Maybe so and I think there was always the idea that Texas would end up joining the United States. Texas back then was bigger than it's current form and included parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Colorado, I think. More trivia: when Texas joined the United States they received the right to fly their flag at the same height as the US flag, unlike other states. I don't know if that still holds.

Isn't one reason the Texans wanted to secede from Mexico because they wanted to have slaves?

well played, i love that phrase

I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

cvanepps, that's really sad. Craziness. I'm glad you killed her. Well played.

I used to work with this girl from San Antonio. We were talking about Texas and I mentioned something about losing the Alamo battle, and she looked at me like I was crazy. "We didn't lose!" she said.

How can someone from San Antonio not know the history of the Alamo? I was flabbergasted. So I picked up a nearby tac hammer and bonked her on the head, crushing her skull.

Road trip to the Alamo!

I've been to the Alamo and frankly it was pretty small and unimpressive.

The Texans ended up winning that war when they caught Santa Ana (the President of Mexico) and his troops taking a siesta. My 5th grade Texas history class is really paying off.

Out of curiosity, did anyone catch the San Antonio, Texas reference in the thread title and original post?

Ozzy took a wee pee, just not in the basement.

Well, the people who fought on the Texan side are "heroes" now because they fought to the death..blablabla..Misplaced patriotism...as usual..

I saw an episode of King of the Hill where they kept quoting "Remember the Alamo" - What does this mean? Was it an upset victory or something?

Oh, I also learned from another source which I am temporarily suspended from that somebody named Travis might have made quesadillas there, depending on the reliability of my soure.

it wasn't during the american civil war - it was a battleground between texas (when it was an independent state) and mexico. the mexicans won and amerian folklore heroes like davey crockett died there
