Any of you familiar with the band? Because I'm not, I only own one record, Silence is sexy, and like it very much. They sound so German : somewhere between experimental music (Stockhausen, Mouse on Mars) and this expressionist, sometimes scary sprachgesang that reminds of the 20s Berlin.

Can anybody tell me which other records are worth purchasing? Are they still touring etc - I would really like to see them perfortm live.

Thx.

Couldn't you use one of the alt+keypad combinations to produce an umlaut, or just put an E after the letter you want to umlaut?

Einsturzende Neubauten means destroying new buildings, neubauten also refers to the big ugly blocks erected after WW2. Blixa Bargeld is the genuine article as far as I'm concerned, kind of Ian Curtis(joy division)exagerated and German. He screams almost as well as Mr. Black (meine zele brent(sp?) from halber mench, translation - my soul burns from half man) As I heard it, E.N. had their visas revoked during their first U.S. tour basically for not being poseurs. And wrecking some clubs.Wish I had umlats on my keyboard.

Yeah, they're one of my top 10 favorite bands.
Must haves:

Halber Mensch
Haus der Lüge
Tabula Rasa

Silence is Sexy is my least favorite of all of their work - very light and lacking the edge of most of their earlier albums. The newest album, Perpetuum Mobile, is also very light, but has a few good tracks.
They toured a couple years ago and played in Chicago. That was the best concert I have ever been to. I would make every effort to catch them on their next swing through Europe if I were you. It is not to be missed.

Also, there is a video available called "Liebeslieder", that includes some music video clips, interviews, background on the band, and riveting live performances that you might want to look into.

My first EN albums were "Kollaps" and "Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T."

That's where I'd start.

-

Skip on to "Ende Neu" after that.

-

I've uploaded the the track "Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T." to my webspace. Check it out if you like.

You can buy pretty much everything of theirs at http://www.neubauten.org/
