GAH! Sonofabitch!!

Something weird is happening. I finally decided on a song to contribute as a B-Side to the Frank Black Tribute Album.."Hate Me"..but for some reason someone or something doesn't want it to happen. So, I'm playing the heavy rhythm guitar, right? I get to a certain point near the end of the song and my string breaks. I thought it sounded pretty cool, so I kept it and figured "Well, I was going to record it again and pan them left and right, so hopefully it won't matter too much. I'll think of something." So I get my other guitar and I'm playing and the same string broke..at the exact same time in the song. I kept playing without the string and actually finished it that time...It's not a brutal chord change or anything...so I have no idea why it happened. Freaked me out.

The shitty thing is that I was playing by memory and accidentally put the bridge/solo thing in the wrong spot..it still sounds kinda cool, though, so I might keep it. Wish me luck with the lead guitar and bass...haha...

no i wasn't re-stringing, but it was so out of tune, i was pratically re-stringing it, if you see what i mean, tightened it too much... first time i'd ever tuned a bass really... and last probably.

high E is the least annoying because barre chords are still do-able

I always seem to break my low-E string. High E is common as well, but I'd say mostly my low E.

i did so say! she plays bass, and keyboards... she's just done a great piano part on the song we're recording at the moment, it came from no where, and a great bass part... i hadn't even imagined anything like that for the song (that i'd been planning for a month or so)...

it's quite easy to tighten a bass string too tightly, they break at the top, where they're not so thick...

woah, you never said your gf was in your band???

Ive broke....low e, high e, d, g....oh, yeah, ive actually broken all of them at some point or another. Some through strnging when i couldnt re string though.

Breaking bass strings is pretty hardcore. That reminds me, I wanna buy a bass.

i broke the low e on my girlfriend's bass, just before we were going to do some rehearsing, whilst tuning it, so i bought her some new strings a few days later, got a text at work "i broke the low e" haha! she did exactly the same thing while stringing it...

on my guitar i've only broken E and B.. breaking a D must be pretty hardcore. i would be the last to criticise though, i've actually broken a low E on a bass, and i'm not even shitting you. back in the day it was, with my friend's bass, damn electric tuner wasn't working, had no idea it was strung so tightly already, twisted it once more... bugger. didn't snap, but the wound string came off the core string thing.
ProverbialCereal Posted - 08/12/2004 : 20:12:17
I've never broken anything other than my high-E string..

The last time that happened was after my friend had been playing it because his guitar broke (not string. guitar) so he needed mine for band practice. It was fine when I put it in the case, but the next time I whipped it out to play the high E string was busted. Not very rock and roll for a string to break in the case.

Hoho..funny..

Actually it was my D-String. I hate restringing my guitar. Hate it so much. Mainly because I can't do it neatly. It ends up looking like shit. But it works.
