There are several good songs on that first Waitresses album.
They're an interesting band. They're kind of a branch on the tree of weird Ohio rock (like Pere Ubu, Devo, etc.) The guy who wrote all the songs for the Waitresses is Chris Butler, who was previously in one of David Thomas's favorite bands, Tin Huey (who made one album, recorded for a major label -- it's in a similar vein to stuff like the Residents). And in the 90s Chris Butler's musical output is most noted for his song, "The Devil Glitch", which I think broke some kind of world record for the longest pop single. It's over an hour long.
On another internet board a long time ago, I posted to a thread in praise of Chris Butler and the first Waitresses LP. Months after that, Chris Butler ended up e-mailing me in response saying he prefers the second Waitresses album, which I still haven't heard.
Cool
Actually posting the lyrics to these 80's tunes the other night was the result of my being very sick, mixing a dose of Thera flu, a double of Nyquil, a six pack of Firestone's Double Barrell Ale (our local brewery) and cranking my new eighties classic cd that I just got. I logged on FB in the morning and was like... GOOD LORD! What have I done? Less Thera Flu next time.
