Scary.

What started as a minor irritation on my left shin Saturday night, became an excruciating pain by Monday afternoon. My mom took me to the nearest medical clinic and the doctor had a look at my hot, red, 'now swollen from just below the knee to just above the ankle' shin.

Doctor: Looks like you've got a bacterial infection.

Me: Oh, good, my Mom thought I had Flesh-eating Disease.

Doctor: You probably do!

Me: Sure it's not just a spider bite?

Doctor: Yup, here's a prescription, if it's not better in 48 hours go to emergency at the hospital.

Mosquitoes will never be killed, because they're in league with the government! It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

I'm pretty much cured thanks to all the nice doctors and nurses at St. Paul's Hospital in downtown Vancouver! I might have to have an abcess drained in a month or so but that will be another story for another day.

mossies are trickier to elimnate than you think, there's a really simple way of doing it but seeing how it isn't cost effective it ain't happening and it's kind of dull too.

Shine my man, I can 100 per-fucking-cent empathise with you. well, maybe 80%. 100% with floop though.

There's this bug that I'm allergic too, don't know what it is 'cos I never notice the fucker bite me, but on my trip the weekend I got bit on my left upper arm four times, my arm (attractively) is now red and swollen with four blistering oozing nasty things on approximately 2" in diameter, the rest of the red swollen upper arm area is hard and sore, and feels like it's been burnt.

I have a course of hard antibiotics for it. Yay. More antibiotics

my hometown, Fullerton CA, is supposedly having a significant outbreak of West Nile Virus lately. there have been several deaths, and apparantly there have been an exorbitant number of birds inexplicably turning up dead.

i was visiting my family tonight and got bitten by a mosquito. yay.

Could you have come in contact with a poisinous plant? I did a few years ago, while hiking in the mountains above L.A.- doctor said it could have been poisin oak, or could have been some other plant. My shin and ankle were so swollen, I couldn't put on a shoe, and it was painful to walk even a few blocks. I think it had a permanent effect on my shin cause the area just below my knee is ultra- sensitive.

you'll be feeling better in no time.

hey guys,

thanks for all the concern. I'm just quickly checking in. The bacteria spread to the back of my leg pretty quickly on Tuesday afternoon so I went to Emergency and am now recieving nightly treatments. IV anti-biotics. fun!

mrsa is fairly common, alot of people carry it and it doesn't affect them, I see a lot of it in theatres, you can get it in your nostrils!

bumblebeeboy2 Posted - 08/03/2004 : 13:38:02
i had a flesh eating disease, well technically i still do. mrsa (i think i have the letters the right way around?)... basically i got a big lump under my left knee, it got bigger, and it got more painful, especially to walk, then one morning it started oozing, when it finished i had a hole in my leg, 3 quarters of an inch, maybe half an inch (not sure!) deep... was a bit scary! anyway it's healed now, just a scar there. but i still have mrsa, so that's worrying. but apparently so do a third of people over here carry it...

hope all goes well!

And it's hard to be a human being, and it's harder as anything else, and I'm lonesome when you're around, and I'm never lonesome when I'm by myself, and I miss you when you're around.

maybe it's leishmaniasis! I'd put serious money on it not being though! Get well soon and don't get eaten all up by the eaty disease, or at least save your fingers for typey purposes x

Hehe. This reminds me of an incident involving one of my friends.

He was the anaesthetist for a patient undergoing a hysterectomy. During the operation he had to fart so he went into the corner of the OR and released a silent killer. Pretty soon the whole OR was fouled up by the smell. The surgeon freaked out because he thought he had made a huge mistake and had cut into the bowels of the patient and that was where the smell was coming from.

Poor guy had to confess about having farted.

Get well soon Shine.

Me or mere? If the former, that was a crappy pun. (heh...crappy, get it?)

Anyway, no - apparently some people can be carriers of the streptococcus bacteria, and it will colonize in the digestive tract. Icky, no?

Holy crap! Feel better soon. I hope they gave you some Bactroban to put on it too. For what it's worth, it may well have started out as a spider bite, especially if it was a recluse. Once necrosis sets in, it won't stop until you get some drugs. Owww!
