Anybody agrees that these guys make some really good music?

I thought Feast Of Wire was one of the best albums I've heard last year. Quattro(World Drifts In) certainly a song I'll love forever.

Today I watched a live DVD of theirs recorded at the Barbican in London 2002. Damn, now I just want to see Calexico live. I guess they don't always have the Marriachi band along when they have a show but when they do, like at this show, the audience must have a blast. Trumpets, accordion, slide guitar, great songs. I love it.

Back when Calexico began to be famous here in France, I'd read a lot of great reviews of their records and from what I read I thought it was an awesome band. And then my sister burned me a copy of Hot Rail, which I heard isn't one of their best records. So I listened to it and I must say I really hate it. A couple of long boring instrumentals, 2 or 3 fake mariachi songs, and ballads I don't really care about. I really thought I would love a band with a strong country influence and mariachi musicians, but it didn't turn out that way. I have a bunch of traditional mexican music albums (mariachi/norteņa/ranchera) at home and I'd listen to them over Calexico any day. Then again, all I know by them is 1 album, maybe I'll change my mind after hearing the other ones.

I've listened to the album version of Wash today and it doesn't come close to the live version. Try and get a hold of the Barbican show on DVD/bootleg. Incredible.

Denis, I'm sorry to hear you hate 'em. Why?

IMO Feast of Wire is one of the best albums of 2003 - if not the best...

I haven't listened enough to compare albums, but Feast of Wire and Hot Rail are both great.

I'm yet to hear Spoke but a song from it, Wash, kicks off the Barbican show and it is incredible.

I absolutley love Calexico.

"Feast Of Wire" rubbed me the wrong way, personally. I was dissapointed in its shiny production and the vocals just sound wrong to me. The atmosphere is lost to my ears.

IMHO I think "Spoke" and "Hot Rail" are very close to masterpieces of the genre, whatever it is. :)

They are amazing live, even without the Marriachi band. I was completely blown away by their show, they could've played all night.
