i'm thinking they can. maybe on top of the impenetrable plactic casing they could also add some sort of metal sheathing (a cocoon if you will) and some kind of pad lock system.

Which ones? Cassettes and CD's nearly always come in plastic cases. I assume you mean a particular kind?

Remember those plastic case things that cassettes used to come in? I think CDs even came in them for awhile. Man did I ever hate those fucking things.

The last CD I bought had a piece of plastic to pull to tear a whole section off, like they do on cigarette packets I believe. I hope they all come with that from now on.

Thanks for that - and sorry for hijacking this thread and turning into a cat discussion.

The handheld laser thing is genius - my two (Bubba and Hank Harlen jnr) are obsessed with shadows.

The crackling toys are basically celephane inside of a fabric case that look like a frog or a snake or something. Some cats like them some don't. I brought home a crackling little frog the other day and Ares (1 of my 4) would not leave it alone for about 2 days. He even slept with it. Now he could care less.

Oscar loves bouncy balls. Also he likes to chase fake golf balls, and frisbies outdoors.

Bailey only likes scratching you and doing what he isn't supposed to.

Ares used to love shredding brand new rolls of tiolet paper.

They all love those hand-held lasars, they go nuts over that one.

Good luck with the cats, and don't get any razorblades for them.

try using an empty toilet paper roll thing. my cat loves those.

My cats go completely mad when I start opening new cds. I roll the plastic wrapping into a ball and fix long sticker strips around it. Their favorite toy.

You hane no razor blade in your car? And you live in LA?

You must be a hippie!
Little Black Francis Posted - 07/28/2004 : 23:14:47
razor blades work for dvds too, and help with the stickers too... you just slice it down the cracks and the stickers are then split in two, the wrapper comes right off and you just peel off the stickers from where you slit them...

I used to work at a video store... I had to open 1000s of DVDs...

I just hate how they scratch so easily?

Why can't they put plastic coating or cases on dvds and cds to protect the surface and so there will never be a scratched disc? A lasar lens can read through clear plastic I'd think... food for thought...

Here's a trick that'll make it a lot easier to get off the sticker: Instead of opening the case from right to left, carefully open it from bottom to top. You'll end up having the sticker attached to the front of the CD case which has been separated from the back, and then it's easy to pull it off. My ex-girlfriend used to work at Tower Records, and I was so amazed and delighted when she showed me this that I couldn't believe it.

for ages i thought you guys couldn't open the CD cases (once out of all the packaging), and i thought you were jsut weirdos. now i totally understand and agree!
El Barto Posted - 07/28/2004 : 17:37:21
DVDs are far worse...it generally takes me around 20 minutes to get a DVD open. Finally you get the plastic off, then there's 3 freaking stickers to get without fucking up the case.

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

But to answer the question.

I'm thinking when you want to open a cd,
they should tie it to the front bumper of Taxi in metropolitain area, and all you have is a skateboard.
You start at a stand still and then the taxi takes off.
You try to get it.
It's up to you how...
Those are the only rules...=)

What I hate about the sticker on CD tops is some corners have small "L" shaped cut in them and even if it comes off almost whole it breaks at the little cuts leaving the littlest bit sticker on the case front. It's gotten to the point where I cut it as I described up top and just leave it on.

I do that too, I noticed on some there is a little directional arrow that guides you, if you do it slowly enough it is no problem to remove in one piece.

Why do motor oil and windshield washer fluid have safety seals? Is someone going to poison them?
NimrodsSon Posted - 07/28/2004 : 09:18:31
Yeah, I have one of those openers too. What really gets me though is those stickers, and every time I get them off they leave the sticky shit and I always have to use GooGone or something to get it off.

I have an opener similar to this. Works like a charm.

I have normal guy length fingernails and I just use my thumb nail to cut the celophane between the tray and cover on the jewel case facing you and then the same procedure for that horrible plastic ID tag in the seem between the back of the case and the lid. No problems.

I have long fingernails (psycho barbie colour if you were wondering) and still have trouble getting into cds. I also have a deep loathing for double cds - for some reason I have untold problems with those *hangs head in shame*

I have no problems with CDs. Do you have fingernails?

TheCroutonFuton Posted - 07/27/2004 : 22:48:35
No, that'd be too easy. They need to put an electronic keypad on it and you have to go through all of the 4-number combinations imaginable until you come up with it. Then when you finally get it open it bites you. Little bastard CD's.
