That's really strange, apl. A girl I know once said that when you are down, you don't listen to sad music, you listen to the Beastie Boys.
Inna zany combination of Wayne's Pet Youngin'!
I agree, the last thing I want when I am sad, is sad music.
So yeah, go the Beastie Boys!

and obviously it was inspired by my post about how much that film rocks, wasnt it tar tar?
Tindersticks...never really got on with them. Cat power i saw live once...she was off her head on coke or something...didnt really sing, sort of just told everyone how much she loves them and put the house lights on...
Really depressing music if you are going through teenage angst, manics or placebo. I dotn recommend that though..
Just thought I'd throw that in there... |

Oh, the Tindersticks never make me cry, I'm always in a good mood after the Tindersticks. I would join Benji and recommand Cat Power. Or Joy Division.
Alors, Denis, passé de bonnes vacances?
Hell! It took me 4 days to understand who you were. Holidays were great:

Posted - 07/21/2004 : 20:37:55 I agree with the Cheeseman. I say Jeff Buckley.
The fact that he is dead doesn't make it any easier to listen to.
Ah, what a beautiful songwriter.

You wake up late for school and you don't wanna go. You ask your mom please but she still says no. You miss two classes and no homework. But your teacher preaches class like he's some kinda jerk.
You gotta fight For your right To party.
Your pop caught you smokin' and he said no way. That hypocrite smokes two packs a day. Man, livin' at home is such a drag. Now, your mom threw away your best porno mag. (BUST IT)
You gotta fight For your right To party.
You gotta fight!
Get out of this house if that's the clothes you're gonna wear. I'll kick you out of my home if you dont cut that hair! Your Mom busted in and said what's that noise? Aww Mom you're just jealous it's the Beastie Boys!
You gotta fight For your right To party. (2x)
party! (2x)
Save crying for more important things. |

Jawbox used to rough me up.
The first two albums (Grippe / Novelty) were incredible. Struck right at the heart of my 15-year-old self.

Posted - 07/21/2004 : 06:04:40 some Leonard Cohen should do the trick. Best listened to alone and naked in a dark room (just make sure you have someone on hand for some hug therapy in case it pushes you too far!)

"My Sister" by Tindersticks is a bummer.

U. Utah Phillips' "We Have Fed You All A Thousand Years" is fairly moving.

Posted - 07/21/2004 : 01:49:21 to answer your original question....
Cat Power - 'the covers record' and 'what would the community think' are very "depressing" Dirty Three - 'horse stories' and 'ocean songs' are very sad and emotional music...especailly horse stories
just a couple to get you started.

Lemmee think here. For someone that just needs to cry and whose parents won't let them get their license yet... urgh...
I'm gonna have to go with "Til Her Daddy Takes Her T-Bird Away" by the Beach Boys and "License To Confuse" by Sebadoh.

Posted - 07/20/2004 : 23:03:05 Yeah the song at the end of Donnie Darko!!!!! its actually a cover of tears for fears but a very beutiful one. Anyway I feel like crying cause I think it's good to get out our emotions. Also I'm kinda depressed that my parents want me to wait a fucking year till I get my drivers license!!!! I'm pissed at them.
