With Lyle Workman on guitar, no less. He also plays on TMBG's version of "New York City."
State Songs is a great album. I think anyone who likes TMBG would like that as well.

Posted - 07/16/2004 : 15:36:17 Kind of on topic -saw this on slashdot today:
Interview with the Johns: "TMBG on DRM" http://slashdot.org/articles/04/07/16/160228.shtml?tid=141&tid=188
"John and John from They Might Be Giants speak to Newsweek about, amongst other things, digital rights management. My favorite exchange? 'How would you eat, then?' 'That’s my problem.' When are record companies going to realize that DRM isn't going to help them sell more of the bad music that dominates the airwaves?" http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5445923/site/newsweek |

every track on the album is on tmbg radio. i like them all quite a bit. some of them took a while to grow on me and some of them ('iowa', 'west virginia' and 'south carolina') are just instantly catchy and great. |

Posted - 07/15/2004 : 18:00:18 There's also Long Tall Weekend, an online-only album available from eMusic, which came out in 1999 (between Severe Tire Damage and Mink Car). I don't like the idea of albums you HAVE to download, but I'd say it's worth getting if you're a fan. "Reprehensible" is one of my favorite TMBG songs.
Some of the tracks from LTW, as well as other rarities, are on a CD called They Got Lost, which you can buy from the TMBG website.
I usually say Lincoln is my favorite TMBG album, but it's a tough call to make. Flood is their best-selling album, and the one that people who don't know anything else by the band tend to like. It's understandable, since that's a very accessible album, but I think Lincoln, Apollo 18, John Henry, and possibly the first album are better. Flood is a good starting point, though, I should think.
Dial-A-Song is still around. For a while it wasn't working at all, but they recently got a new machine, which switches songs around randomly. It's usually busy, though.

Posted - 07/15/2004 : 15:41:33 oh yeah, when i lived at home we had this free long-distance thingy, so i used to call dial-a-song every couple of days, always fun. when i moved out i realised how expensive this could become. they also stopped changing it on a daily basis as far as i know.

Posted - 07/15/2004 : 15:34:47 lincoln is a great album, it's their 2nd.
tmbg studio albums in chronological order:
they might be giants lincoln flood apollo 18 john henry (first album with a live band) factory showroom mink car the spine (just came out tuesday, homestar runner video is for a song from this)
other albums/compilations:
miscellaneous t (b-side compilation) severe tire damage ("live" album, some live some studio) then: the earlier years (2-discs contains first 2 albums, plus everything from miscellaneous t plus some super-rarities. only for the die-hard fan or someone who doesn't own the first two albums.) dial-a-song (similar to then, but more of a "best of")
no! (children's album, fairly recent)
mono puff - unsupervised mono puff - it's fun to steal (mono puff is john flansburgh's band) people are wrong! (john flansburgh's musical)
john linnell - state songs (linnell's solo project)
not including singles/foreign releases that's pretty much it.

Flood and Apollo 18 - Misc. T is good, but I think it is a pre-Flood era compilation or something.

There's a fun little song.
I liked Apollo 18 a lot when I was in high school. I also had Factory Showroom, and I know that album isn't a favorite amongst many TMBG fans, but I think there's some great stuff on there, especially the cover of Cub's "New York City."
I have Flood, too. "I returned a bag of groceries..."
