i'm looking for a new apartment right now, and every time i find the perfect place it's a stupid "no pets" policy.

soulless pet haters!

how bad of an idea is it to lie about having a pet? (on a scale of 1 to 10)

Just who is the Craig who owns that list, anyway?

Clearly your cat poses several liabilities for you.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how cute is your cat?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much are you in love with her?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how many years would it take you to recover from giving her away because you found the perfect no-pets apartment?

If the total your answers is greater than 6, keep on looking!

It's a 1-2 on the bad-for-lying scale. Everyone does it.

You might also consider the SPCA? They may be able to refer you to buildings that allow pets in your area, you're in LA right?

i actually found this place on craigslist. they forgot to include that "no pets" bit.

i'm so pissed. i've been looking forever. being really picky because i want to find the right place. but everything that's been good so far is no pets. or too fucking expensive. real estate is ridiculous here now (not just houses but rentals)

Try searching on Craig's List. You can search for just apartments that allow pets. That's how we found our place. Me, my girlfriend, and my cat.

Sorry to get off topic, but my cat has been really sick. I've spent about $2,000 in the past month for him at the vet, and it's really staring to hurt financially. (It's so hard to bring money into the equation when talking about a loved one, but it's reality.) Now I have to give him fluids (injection) and several pills everyday. I thought he was going to die for a while there, he lost about a third of his weight and he was barely moving. He looks a lot better now though. He is 16. His name is Albert. (As in Fat, not Einstein.)

But yeah, try Craig's List. Found my apt, formed my band, and got rid of an old bedframe. Oh, and my girlfriend got a job through CL also. Plus, CL is free! That's always nice.

With just a cat, I'd give it a 5...

as long as it's indoor cat only and it doesn't meow a lot

I had an apt. where there were no cats aloowed, there were like 10 apts. in the building, and half the people have cats...

Maybe you should just talkto them, say hey, I have 1 cat, can I please have it, I will give you an extra security deposit or something.

If that works, your cat will probably shit and puke all over the crapets.

Fuck pet haters!

i am actually not a furrie. though i have nothing against furries (for the record).

Tre has already admitted to being a furrie. this is her:

When my ex and I were looking for a place in this town, we were limited because of all the "no pet" policies. We have 2 very responsible cats. More places should be "Cats OK" because I mean, fuck, it's a cat..they're self-sufficient.

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

Yeah Floop, it's a shame because you sound like a responsible person. You might have better luck trying individual owners rather than companies. Our company leaves it up to each owner. But some companies themselves might have a no pet policy. But keep trying and you'll find something. Especially with a cat. Usually it's easier to find a place that will allow a cat than a dog.
floop Posted - 07/08/2004 : 14:20:53
good for you Tamereg. obviously you have a soul.

i understand their point of view, but yeah, why not just have a deposit or whatever. my cat has never not used her litter box.

granted my chair has been turned into a scratching post, but that's a different story..

TameReg Posted - 07/08/2004 : 14:12:13
OK, I'll be the bad guy here. I work for a property management company, and you would be AMAZED at what people let their pets do. Destroy the carpets, chew woodwork to hell, get urine odors in the carpets or hardwood floors. Now, not all pet owners are this bad, and some are very responsible, but some others people let their pets do anything. It's a shame because the responsible pet owner is punished for what the irresponsible pet owners do. But I can see the landlord's side of the issue. For the record, I have two cats and a dog, and I love animals. I have a couple of my own rentals, and I'll allow pets with an extra deposit.

You have cat flap at your flat?

That has a very Dr. Seuss ring to it.
Cheeseman1000 Posted - 07/08/2004 : 13:19:23
Yeah, the flats on my row are pretty OK with cats, but I had issues with the agency when I checked about keeping my cow in the spare room.

Kind regards,

i think purpose built flats are normally quite strict about pets, but buildings converted into flats (such as the place i live in) are normally okay with cats. we have a cat flap on our door, but no cat. a couple of the other flats seem to have tonnes of cats though.

(Not too bad)

To be honest, I don't really know cos I don't have a pet.
Except Timmy the tapeworm, obviously.

People like animals here, it sounds a bit more lenient...
