I want to get another one of their albums.
The one I have is Mezcal Head.
I have had it for almost 10 years, yet never bought another Swervedriver album.
I think this album is great.
Are any other albums by Swervedriver great? |

Swervedriver to Reunite for World Tour Next Year
They're been gone so long, color photography was invented in the interim
It's been nigh on ten years since Swervedriver's 99th Dream, which even the least casual observer might've pegged their swan song. And perhaps it was: on record, anyway. We'll just have to wait and see.
But for now, these boys-- Adam Franklin, Jimmy Hartridge, Steve George, and Jez Hindmarsh-- have announced an end to their extended hiatus, as the fondly remembered Swervedriver plans to tour the world early next year, breaking almost a decade of silence. The dates have yet to be confirmed; we'll have 'em for you when they are.
Swervedriver's not-so-former-anymore frontman Adam Franklin is currently out shooting Bolts of Melody all over North America. Those dates available after the jump.

Swervedriver reform, announce intention to tour

Oxford-based swirly rockers Swervedriver have reformed, reports Pitchfork.
The four-piece last released a long-play record in 1998; 99th Dream was their fourth album in all, and arrived after the band had been cut from the Geffen roster.
The band's Adam Franklin initially remarked that he may haul Swervedriver out of their hiatus when the Pixies began their money-spinning reformation shows, and now (according to Pitchfork) there are definitely dates forthcoming for 2008.
More details as and when we can be bothered to look over there at the community column and steal them.

Swervedriver Aiming For Spring Relaunch

U.K. rock act Swervedriver is aiming to hit the road in the spring for its first tour in nearly a decade, frontman Adam Franklin tells Billboard.com.
"There are so many bands reforming. I've seen a lot of them get back together and they were awe-inspiring: Dinosaur Jr, the Stooges, the Pixies," he says. "We kind of thought, if we can give people a good time, hell, why not?"
Franklin says bassist Steve George and drummer Jez "have been rehearsing to get their chops together in England. Those guys haven't really played many shows in the past 10 years. But Steve was saying he went through the songs and found he could remember all the parts."
The plan is for Swervedriver to be back on the road by April, likely starting in the United States. "We always thought we were better received here," says Franklin, adding that there is chatter about the group playing the 2008 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif.
"Initially, it's a touring thing," he adds. "We'll get together and do some dates. There's no rush. We figure, we'll take it one step at a time."
Franklin has spent his post-Swervedriver career in the band Toshack Highway and has also recorded solo. Amid an ongoing solo tour, which plays in Ottawa, Ontario, tonight (Oct. 26), the artist found time to record an EP with Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino under the name the Setting Suns.
That project is due next month via Coldplay/Interpol manager Dave Holmes' new label, DH. "It's cool because most of the music has been Sam's," Franklin says. "Some is guitar-originated, some is keyboard-oriented. I've sat down, come up with vocal melodies and words, and then given them back to him."
Asked if Swervedriver might consider making a new album, Franklin reports, "I don't know. You move on and you move into a different mindset. The songs I'm writing now seem right for the quote-unquote solo Adam Franklin stuff. I couldn't even think of what songs that are kicking around that could be Swervedriver. But like I said, it's really one step at a time."

When we spoke with the head Swervie a few weeks ago -- in advance of his pretty awesome, although under-attended Bluebird show -- he had this to say about a reunion:
Well, it's great that people still talk about the band. It's been ten years since Swervedriver has done anything and twenty years since the band formed. Obviously a lot of bands have been reforming lately. A lot of these bands you go and see them, and it's really quite awe-inspiring. I went and saw the Pixies when they reformed and it was kind of spine-tingling. So, who knows? Perhaps.
Well, if by "perhaps" he meant "nobody knows this yet, but we're totally getting back together in 2008." The release I received today:
After almost a 10-year long absence, the revered UK band SWERVEDRIVER plans to reform for an early 2008 worldwide tour. Swervedriver is Adam Franklin on guitar and vocals, Jimmy Hartridge on guitar, Steve George on bass, and Jez on drums. Swervedriver formed in Oxford, England in 1989 and released a series of EP's followed by their debut full-length, Raise, in 1991 on Creation Records in the UK and A&M Records in the U.S. Mezcal Head followed in 1993, then in 1995 Ejector Seat Reservation came out on Creation in the UK, but was only available as an import in the US. Their last release, 99th Dream, was released by Zero Hour in 1998. Tour dates for Swervedriver will be announced shortly. Adam Franklin is in the midst of a U.S. solo tour in support of Bolts of Melody, which was released this past June on Hi-Speed Soul. See remaining dates below.

Ejector seat reservation is the one that I have. Love it.
Raise Ive heard..but not actually purchased yet.
But yeah, really like what ive heard.
Just thought I'd throw that in there... |

I am a big Swervedriver fan. I remember a few years ago I played right after Mr. Adam Franklin at the CMJ fest in NYC (of course, I missed his friggin show, but hey I played AFTER him - hehehe), but I missed him as I didn't know that he was performing. I was pretty gutted about it.
Hmmm..The other albums are really different. Mezcal Head is the only album on a major and it sounds it with the giant guitars, particularly on Duel.
Their first album, Raise, sounds really shoegazeresque. It's good, but I like their other albums more. Has 'Rave Down' which is a brilliant song.
3rd album - Ejector Seat Reservation - has elements of Mezcal, but not many. I think it sounds really 70's. 'Bring Me the Head of the Fortune Teller' sounds like it should be off of Mezcal. Ejector Seat Reservation is a great song. There are other goodies on here, but this is a good album (I think it's their best). Also, my copy had this song 'It's All Happening Now' is excellent (apparently not on every record, so make sure that it is on the one you buy). I got to see them live for this album's tour which was a blinding show!
4th Album - 99th Dream is a little weaker than the other 3 in my opinion, but not bad - it is Swervedriver....

Mezcal Head is a great album, I love duel, girl on a motorbike and never lose that feeling/never learn. Wicked guitar work. It gets more play than "raise" in my house. I've also got a couple singles that have wicked b-sides from the same sessions. There was some fuck around with their labels and I can never find Ejector Seat Reservation and 99th Dream (mind you it's been a while since I looked and I think Sony re-released ESR). I'd be happy to copy raise and some of the b-sides and stuff if you are interested in trading. e-mail me if you are.
