Posted - 07/05/2004 : 03:25:11 I just got the new Cure album and man is it good. It's not great ie Disintegration great or Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me great. But it has real good songs on there. But Bobby Smith, to me, sounded very angry in the album. I mean it's the first time I've ever heard him say "fuck" in an album. But none the less it's a good album, they still got it. If you're a big Cure fan, pick it up.
Are there any Cure fans on here that have the CD already? If so, what do you think of it? This isn't a pro-New Cure thread. If you didn't like it feel free to say so.
In my defense... I'm just sayin' |

The guy who produced their latest album did the production for Korn. Weird, I think, but whatever works to get them back in the saddle.
If anyone has a chance, I can't recommend highly enough that you get to one of the tour shows NOW! http://www.thecure.com/events/ Some very good reviews of the concerts, and the band in general, here: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/ChainofFlowers/august0404.html
We went to the Aug. 4th Cleveland, OH show (Blosssom Muisc Center), and we were treated to the old Robert (Disintegration era and earlier), and a bevvy of old songs never before performed live. It was an earth-shattering experience.

I had been a Cure fan since 1986, but dropped off after Disintegration. I never had the chance to see them live til now, and it looks like this was the perfect time to jump back in. He's hungry and soulful and dark again. |

Posted - 08/11/2004 : 09:56:52 I just got this a few days ago. I was a HUGE Cure fan in my youth and have everything they've done up until Wish. My favorite albums of theirs (aside from Disintegration) are The Top, Head on the Door, and Boys Don't Cry.
This new album is fucking great. The mood reminds me a lot of the Top which I consider vintage Cure, but it also feels fresh and current. The songs are very different from most of The Cure's stuff. Robert's vocals are the best part though. He sounds so natural, so out front and confident. His performance on "Lost" is one of the greatest expressions of emotion I've heard. The sound quality leaves a little to be desired. It sounds really digital and the guitars all sound like Line6 presets. Other than that, fucking great. Definitely their best since Disintegration.

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 22:44:11 The Cure had some great music, though I'm really only familiar with the songs on the Greatest Hits disc. Sometimes they're a bit corny, but sometimes they're a bit sinister, so it ends up being kinda cool having that change in tone from song to song.

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 18:57:04 Disintegration has some good tunes, but it is not one of the best Cure albums IMO. Of course this is totally down to taste. Plainsong, Same Deep Water as You, Homesick, Untitled, Disintegration are all beautiful songs, but in my opinion there are too many 'singles' on this album.
The new album I am pleasantly surprised with, I really like it, it's a return to form for the Cure and is their best album since 92's Wish (which is a cracking album). WMS / Bloodflowers had good songs on them but were extremely patchy... whereas this album is more consistent and a typical Cure album in that every listen unveils a little more magic. Smith is trully a genius that imo is underrated. To me he is one of the best ever British songwriters.
Darkoutsider... fyi Robert yells 'Fuck' on a few Cure songs 'Wendy Time,' 'The Kiss,' 'Give Me It,' and one of the songs off of WMS (forgot what its called now).
This album is definately worth picking up!

Posted - 07/11/2004 : 12:18:49 I like the new album. It hasn't grown on me as fast as some of there other stuff, but I'm sure it will. Curiosa tour lawn tickets were on sale at ticketmaster.com for $15 last time I checked. My fiance and I get to see The Cure, Interpol, The Rapture, Mogwai, Muse, The Cooper Temple Clause, etc. for $30. Wow. |

Posted - 07/05/2004 : 12:20:18 I'm not digging the new Cure album much. I'm strange in my tastes when it comes to the Cure though, I guess. I'm one of the only people I know that actually really liked Bloodflowers. As far as the Cure in Orange being the best live concert video ever I say you should check out the Bands Last Waltz, great guests, great songs and it's all shot by Martin Scorsese.

Posted - 07/05/2004 : 12:06:13 I bought the album on Saturday and on a couple of listens it is pretty good. It is getting back to the level they were at in the mid 80's when I was a fan of them along with Echo and the Bunnymen. I have recently also got into Joy Division and Siouxsie and the Banshees from the early 80's as well.
I still think the live video The Cure in Orange is the best live concert recording I have ever seen and I still watch it regularly. I wish they would bring it out on DVD. |

Posted - 07/05/2004 : 03:32:06 I don't like their make-up and their outfits - but they wrote some excellent songs. My favorite: Just like Heaven.
I like all these British bands from the 80s: Echo and the Bunnymen, New Order, the Smiths, the Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode etc. I guess that is because I grew up listening to that music. |
