I'm one of those odd people that really liked a number of the Spiral Stairs songs that Pavement recorded, espeically Date W/ Ikea, Painted Soldiers, Your Time to Change, Stub Your Toe and Hit the Plane Down.
So I was really looking forward to this Preston School of Industry album, the first one, All This Sounds Gas. But it hasn't really grabbed me yet, at least not the majority of the record. I've liked most of the songs from the solo SM albums, but I just can't really feel the vibe of PSOI. However, two songs have really stuck out. Falling Away and A Treasure @ Silver Bank. These two songs are incredible. I keep listening to those two over and over. Whalebones is alright, it'd be a lot better if it was shorter and had a little more going on.
Is Monsoon any better? Maybe it will just take time for me to get PSOI. Afterall, it took me many years to get Pavement.

I haven't listened to the album in awhile, I dug it though. I think I prefer Malkmus' solo stuff. PSOI and the Jicks both sound like what you'd expect from a band fronted by their respective leaders, I just can't help but think that they'd be better back together. I'm sure it's not far off too, everyone else is fucking reuniting and those guys don't seem to have real beef with each other.

Ideas of fires and solitaire are cool songs off that album to.

All I know is that a couple? of em (from pavement) like playing the ponies, and they have moved to the neighborhood outside of Churchill Downs in Louisville to be closer to their obsession.

Malkmus basically just said he finds Max to be conceited and snooty. I can't remember exactly what he says, but it's on the commentary track to the Cut Your Hair video on the Slow Century DVD.

Don't think I was ever able to get through it from beginning to end.
