Metermaids are not human. They hatch from eggs at the bottom of the sea. They're shape-shifters, which is why they take human form when around humans, but they can never totally understand the forms they take.

They should be reffered to by their actual title - meter-maids (this includes the guys). they should also be allowed only to (as their name implies) clean the meter. Sub-human pieces o' dirt.
