Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all people

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to all even the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud agressive people,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself to others you will become vain and bitter;
there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Excercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let not this blind you to the virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself

Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
in the face of all aridity and disenchnatment,
it is as perennial as the grass

Take kindly the consel of the years,
gracefully surrender to the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to sheild you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

Be yourself
Strive to be happy

You area child of the universe,
no less than the trees and stars;
you have the right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with god,
whatever you concieve himto be.
And whatever your labours and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
kepp peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.

Strive to be happy.

Desiderata Max Ehrmann 1927

This is pinned to my wall above my bed. The first time I read this I just broke down in to tears. that was about four years ago, and then, this was exactly what i needed to be reminded of.

I may have been written in 1927, but it is still true - more true today than it was then.

I decided to post this here, because at the moment, its become evident a lot of members are feeling very down.

I hope this can help to some extent.

Jim - this thread is dedicated to you.x

An old friend of mine used to carry this around with her...

The rain set early in tonight,
The sullen wind was soon awake,
It tore the elm-tops down for spite,
And did its worst to vex the lake:
I listened with heart fit to break.
When glided in Porphyria; straight
She shut the cold out and the storm,
And kneeled and made the cheerless grate
Blaze up, and all the cottage warm;
Which done, she rose, and from her form
Withdrew the dripping cloak and shawl,
And laid her soiled gloves by, untied
Her hat and let the damp hair fall,
And, last, she sat down by my side
And called me. When no voice replied,
She put my arm about her waist,
And made her smooth white shoulder bare,
And all her yellow hair displaced,
And, stooping, made my cheek lie there,
And spread, o'er all, her yellow hair,
Murmuring how she loved me--she
Too weak, for all her heart's endeavor,
To set its struggling passion free
From pride, and vainer ties dissever,
And give herself to me forever.
But passion sometimes would prevail,
Nor could tonight's gay feast restrain
A sudden thought of one so pale
For love of her, and all in vain:
So, she was come through wind and rain.
Be sure I looked up at her eyes
Happy and proud; at last I knew
Porphyria worshiped me: surprise
Made my heart swell, and still it grew
While I debated what to do.
That moment she was mine, mine, fair,
Perfectly pure and good: I found
A thing to do, and all her hair
In one long yellow string I wound
Three times her little throat around,
And strangled her. No pain felt she;
I am quite sure she felt no pain.
As a shut bud that holds a bee,
I warily oped her lids: again
Laughed the blue eyes without a stain.
And I untightened next the tress
About her neck; her cheek once more
Blushed bright beneath my burning kiss:
I propped her head up as before
Only, this time my shoulder bore
Her head, which droops upon it still:
The smiling rosy little head,
So glad it has its utmost will,
That all it scorned at once is fled,
And I, its love, am gained instead!
Porphyria's love: she guessed not how
Her darling one wish would be heard.
And thus we sit together now,
And all night long we have not stirred,
And yet God has not said a word!

sweet aint it

I dunno... for deep you gotta dig down into your soul. Way down in it. So, I looked inwards today. And I said, "Give me enough wisdom and strength, yea verily to find some MEANING today." When I came back out, all I could hear was Rumpshaker:

"It's Teddy, ready with the 1-2 checker
Wreckx-N-Effect is in effect, but I'm the wrecker
Off the track, 'bout the honey shakin' rumps and they backs in
Booties of the cuties steady shakin' but relaxin'
The action is packed than a jam like the kinds of beat
Bound to get you up, cold flowin' like a faucet
Not meant to make you sit, Not meant to make you jump
But Jet make the hotties in the parties shake your rump
I like the way you comb your hair, uh
I like the stylish clothes you wear, uh
It's just the little things you do, uh
That makes me wanna get with you, uh"

Does this mean I need an exorcist or lobotamy? You be the judge.

I know,. If we all followed that...the world would be very odd. It just makes me smile everytime, and gives me something to strive for, as it were.

Its something had I read about a year and a half ago would have really hit home. I was a mess and something like that (however unpractical parts of it are) would have been nice to read, to make me realise. Instead I kinda went about fixing things myself, stopped caring about what people thought (so much) girls fix everything in my opinion and I no longer intend to stand by and watch my young self disappear Im meeting people and being less cynical. I feel good. The way this piece intended.
