Posted - 06/28/2004 : 05:35:27 I don't like LOL, but do use smileys. CAuse otherwise I'd look even more boring.
On a sidenote, someone here thought LOL meant "lots of love" and found it quite sweet when someone was sending her emails :)
which I found very amusing |

Posted - 06/27/2004 : 15:55:24 To get technical about it, I'm not sure it's an acronym unless it spells a word. I could be wrong about that, though. But yeah, I'm not a big fan of "LOL," especially since a lot of people tend to use it in situations when they're not actually laughing out loud. (At least I assume they're not. If they are, they must have incredibly odd senses of humor.) I used to use "IMO" and "IIRC," but I tend not to nowadays. Still, those aren't so bad, because at least they're 1) easy to understand, and 2) actually saving the user from a considerable amount of typing. What I don't understand at all is when people use, say, the letter "u" instead of the word "you." Even if you're using the hunt-and-peck method of typing, those two extra letters couldn't possibly take more than a few seconds. I'll grant that it's different with text messages, but that's one reason why text messages are largely impractical.
I will use some emoticons, either for emphasis or to show that I'm joking, but I don't like the graphical ones.

Some days I think all of this is gonna turn out something like Kafka's Gregor Samsa. I'm gonna wake up one day and roll out of bed only to find that I have turned into a giant emoticon.
<--- probably lookin' a lil something like this one.

Posted - 06/27/2004 : 14:53:03 What about smilies? I mean, I really enjoy hitting someone in the head with a brick, don't get me wrong, but not to make him get my jokes. It's like a laugh track on a TV show.

Posted - 06/27/2004 : 14:46:53 Yeah I tend to use 'hehe' instead of lol. I really hate l8r and stuff like that, but I understand that sometimes, in text messages, you have to use it to shorten a message to fit everything in and save yourself from having to send another.
