New Abuse Charges

Classified sections of the military's prisoner abuse report detail sexual assaults on women detainees

By VIVECA NOVAK AND DOUGLAS WALLER

06/20/04 "Time Magazine" -- Could the abuse of prisoners in Iraq have gone beyond the beatings and sexual humiliation already alleged? Unreleased, classified parts of the report on prison abuse from Major General Anthony Taguba, which were read to TIME, contain indications of mistreatment of female prisoners. In a Feb. 21 statement to Taguba, Lieut. Colonel Steven L. Jordan, former head of the Abu Ghraib interrogation center, said he had received reports "that there were members of the MI [Military Intelligence] community that had come over and done a late-night interrogation of two female detainees" last October. According to a statement by Jordan's boss, Colonel Thomas Pappas, three interrogators were later cited for violations of military law in their handling of the two females, ages 17 and 18. Senate Armed Services Committee investigators are probing whether the two women were sexually abused. The Pentagon declined to comment.

Meanwhile, a class action filed in California on behalf of former detainees raises the specter of brutal physical abuse.

One plaintiff, identified only as Neisef, claims that after he was taken from his home on the outskirts of Baghdad last November and sent to Abu Ghraib, Americans made him disrobe and attached electrical wires to his genitals. He claims he was shocked three times. Although a vein in his penis ruptured and he had blood in his urine, he says, he was refused medical attention. In another session, Neisef claims, he was held down by two men while a uniformed woman forced him to have sex with her. "I was crying," said Neisef, 28. "I felt like my whole manhood was gone." The class action also claims that detainees were raped in prison. On June 6, Neisef was released, after a U.S. civilian told him, he says, that he had been wrongly accused by informants. A U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad confirms that a prisoner with Neisef's ID number was released on that date, and TIME has obtained a copy of his release order. But the Pentagon would not comment on the specifics of Neisef's account.

These days she could give him a dose of viagra. He'd have a bone up no matter how repulsive the situation.

there was a case here a few weeks ago of a man being raped by a two woman combo and I think it went to court.. I'll look it up. Besides, from what I hear, I think it is possible to force normal intercourse on a man because the penis is completely detached from the brain. Isn't it??? ;-)

can't get into anything these days. Always on the peripheral. Always terrified, exhausted, annoyed, pissed, anxious, out of it-out of the loop, out of my mind, out of time.

It certainly can happen, I would imagine. I think it's ignorant and harmful to say otherwise. Women can be just as damaging and abusive as men. We all have a responsibility to respect each other, weak or otherwise.

I once saw a guy on tv who said he had been raped by a woman, or was it two women? Anyway, he was a BIG black guy and so everyone laughed at him when he tried to tell them what happened. He said they tied him down and raped him and that his body acted independently of his mind (makes sense) but it really took a toll on him. I hate girls who say it couldn't happen. Granted, it's unlikely but just because the body responds and even if your body likes it, that doesn't mean you want it or that you would have chosen to do it on your own.

Yeah, but with a gun to your head you may have a major case of "Shrinky Dink"

Also...if a woman comes up to you with a gun and says that she's going to kill you if you don't have sex with her..what do you do? I'd probably do it if there was a loaded gun in my face. That's one of the techniques men use to rape women. Threaten them with death and show a weapon and they're all yours. I think a woman could do it, too, honestly.

Besides they may be refering to a sexual act not straight intercourse.

Ask her if ramming something up his ass counts as rape.

I am my only god, ha ha ha ha ha ha

And, how would your girlfriend know that?

You stick something (and it doesn't have to be part of your body) in a guy's ass and he doesn't want it there, that's rape.

I don't think the man in the case would win, though. I hope I'm wrong about that. If this did happen...that's horrible. I hope the two men that held him down testify..otherwise there's no case. Period. The woman is going to win in a "woman raped a man" case if no one else testifies against her.
