I just got my promo copy of Tanya Donnelly's new album 'Whiskey Tango Ghosts"

Its beautiful. I always liked Tanya's voice, and its improved on this album. The songs are really mellow and pretty, and if you've ever wanted to listen to something cool and chilled, but would rip your own auditory canal out rather than listen to Norah Jones, I would heartily recommend this.

I just want to say

K-R-I-S-T-I-N

that's all :)

I want to go to both Bush Hall dates, cause it'll be lovely...

i too was disappointed with the last Tanya record - didn't even buy it.
would have liked to have seen her at Bush Hall, but on cheap drive, so won't go...

but re: throwing muses...definitely start with their first record from 1987...the untitled one.
it was rereleased a few years ago along with their record company demo tape which is absolutely mindblowing and an early ep and rerecorded versions of really old songs....it's a fantastic record.
"In A Doghouse" it's called....go get it.

after that i'd go for University....

Tanya Donnelly is at the Bush Hall in London 27th and 28th July. I am going on the 27th anyone else going? I did not know about the new album though.

I have just recently gotten into Throwing Muses, they are very good. Her voice is lovely.

Listen to Nine Black Alps.

I just downloaded a song with Juliana Hatfield and Yanya Donelly singing together, but not had a good chance to listen to it. I loved Belly when they were about (Haven't listened to them for years), and I'm a big fan of Throwing Muses, especially Real Ramona. I'll have to seek out here new stuff.

I've got a total of 3 of their albums, their most recent self titled one took me a few listens to get into, but now that I'm into it I love it.
I got into University straight away though, fantastic album,go for that

Good point actually: I've never listened to Throwing Muses enough, so what would be the best album to get first?

My only real exposure to Tanya Donnelly and Kristen Hirsh is the Real Ramona album, which I think is a great record. Tanya's songs on their are my favorites, especially Honey Chain. I need to get more Throwing Muses records. Actually, I have University, too, but I haven't really listened to it much. Just haven't gotten in it, and Tanya's not on it, which doesn't seem right to me.

Red Heaven (among several) is also well-worth checking out, IMHO.

Do you guys know we just passed thru a BLACK HOLE in space?

Tonya Harding? I recommend the album "Music to Break Knees By."

And that's been my Incredibly Outdated Joke of the Week. Tune in next week, when I make fun of Judge Ito.

Emily, the *real* release date (at least in the UK) is July 26. The record features contributions from Dean Fisher (husband, ex-Juliana hatfield), Elizabeth Steen (Natalie Merchant), Dave Narcizo (ex-Muses) and one Rich Gilbert on pedal steel and Nashville guitar.
He said, quoting the press release.

Love songs for Underdogs doesn't do it for me

Oh, a new Tanya CD. I had no idea. I really like her, but I didn't love her last solo CD. Lovesongs for Underdogs is FABULOUS though. She is also really involved and "posty" (is that a word? Well, now it is) on her message board. Answers a lot of fan questions and so forth. Anyway, when is the *real* release date?

I think I'll just stick to the auditory canal ripping, thank you.

And I'm pretty sure the Sealab 2021 song is by a band called Calomine (not sure of the spelling). Don't know whether Tanya is in that band or not.

Doesn't she sing the theme song for Sea Lab 2021?

Cheeseman1000 Posted - 06/18/2004 : 15:46:26
Yeah she does. I kinda liked her voice in Belly, it was slightly cracked and honest. Her voice has improved on this record in that its fuller and technically better, but I don't *think* she's lost the emotion in it. I'll need a few more listens to tell you properly.

her voice has improved? i hope she still does all the high trills and such. yay.
