Hey, any yah'll ever noticed that two of the songs George wrote during his tenure in the Beatles, "Think For Yourself" and "Savoy Truffle", have a lot of similarities and the endings are EXACTLY the same? I wonder if this was conscious or if he just didn't have too many songs in his head during that time of his life.

Did you know that Dean Ween from the band Ween went to an auction a year or so and outbid everyone for one of George Harrison's guitars.
He then had a friend paint it like a kindergartener (very shotty paintjob) and he plays with that guitar almost exclusively when he plays electric. You can see it really well in the Ween Live In Chicago DVD. Weird!!?!? |

I always liked those two songs(he likes that phrase "and how", dos'nt he?!), but I love 'Long, long, long', it's so beautiful. I think his lyrics(and some of the other Beatles' 'prose')can be a little clumsy sounding sometimes("I look at the world and I notice it's turning" dos'nt sound right somehow, for instance), but maybe that's part of the Beatles charm! Anyone read the late Ian McDonald's 'Revolution In The Head-The Beatles Music And The Sixties'? It's a great book, although I've never read it in order(It's kinda one of those books you flick through!) |

Maybe George's religious pursuits helped him not get too bent outta shape over Clapton taking up with Patti. George was always an odd guy.
For Clapton's angst over the George-Patti-Eric love triangle see "Layla" and probably other songs off that album. Or not. It's a pretty boring album. |

Yeah, Clapton often sucks. Some of his guitar work is cool. But overall, blah, boring.

I typcially dislike Clapton, but the tribute concert to George Harrison that Clapton apparently arranged was beautiful and a fitting tribute to Harrison. |

Well, I don't know much about George's amount of lovers, but I know Eric Clapton ganked George's wife, Patty (Patti?) shortly after that song Something was recorded. Yet Clapton and Harrison still remained friends? WTF? I wouldn't tolerate that shit. Guess it didn't bother him too much.

I remember liking Piggies when I was 14 just cuz he said Damn in it. Not that I hadn't heard cussing (I know it's hardly cussing) in music before that (I was also listening to Dr. Dre at the time), but it was the earliest instance of a swear word in music I can think of. Now when I found out about Working Class Hero from Plastic Ono Band a few years later, that shit blew my mind.

George the Genius. What an excellent guitar player and writer, if you get the chance check out Marwa blues on the UNCUT free cd this month. Really beautiful song with no lyical probs.(Instrumental ) I think Here comes the sun, Savoy truffle, Think for yourself and Something are all lyrically perfect. Convoluted lyrics are not always better, e.g Frank Black/Black Francis/Bowie/Lennon.
Now Piggies on the other hand , although that "One more time" segue with the orchestra then into Rocky racoon is pure greatness. |
