Anyone else find this trend a bit old?

At first it wasn't too bad...just a bunch of kids rolling around on their skateboards not really involved in any cliques...now they're all wearing their skateboard brand shirts that cost 50 bucks and try to act so street and punk. Wearing their Sum-41 shirts with pride and giving Converse a bad name. Also, having the "Anarchy A" everywhere on their boards and stuff. I don't get it. Grr...annoying. I used to skate because it was fun...now it's just a trend...most of them can't even ollie...

Gershon Mosley was a high school pal. He got sent to the principal for telling the art teacher to "Fuck Off". He gave me one of his early prototype GM logo boards--one of the first with the everslick I think. And he wrote: "Having fun is an art, and you are an artist." HAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Oh yeah. I wrote a feature article of him in the school rag. He was working on a move called the Caddyshack.

you can always tell someone who doesn't really know how to skate when they're carrying their skateboard through an intersection. any skateboarder, if given the choice, would always skate instead of walk and carry their board.

Rodney Mullen is great I used to watch some videos of him on my Tony Hawk's Pro Sakter game. Not that I am any good at skating in real life but I learned how to ollie a few years back when my nan bought me a skateboard!

And I'm pretty good on skateboarding games for consoles!!

I used to love watching skaters, and skate videos.

As you said this guy, it was very much a way of life, and a way of thinking. the ponly people i found on the same wave length were skaters.

I couldnt do it to save my life. well, i could do an ollie, thats about it. (more than most kids these days), but that was nothing compared to what my friends used to do.The majority of them were real flatlanders mostly.

I remember when i saw the first skater kid coming in to our patch, with a sum 41 t shirt on, and listening to blink. He thought he was so coo,, and so skate. He actually thought that was the music you should listen to if you skate.

My friend benn challeneged him, and he was such an idiot. he could barely do a half pipe, never mind anything else.

I know it sounds hypocritical of me to slg off these kids who cant skate when i can only do an ollie, but its like guitar i guess. I know my stuff, but im just not personally very good at it. haha. I probably could play a lot better, and skate a lot better if i actually gave my self the time, but i dont, so it aint gonna happen.

aww, i miss those skating days!

ive been skating since jr high and ill be thirty in a month.
back then if you met another kid with a board, you became friends just because of that common bond. nowdays every kid you meet has an ego the size of a small micronesian island. i partially thank the trend and buzz surrounding skateboardings transition into the mainstream and it being labled a 'sport'.

it used to be a way of life and thinking.
now it's just a marketing gimmick targetting the "extreme youth market".

fuck those dudes and all their material posessions.
you can always tell the difference between a skater and a bandwagoneer.

LOL At the Bam Margera Question! Floop Freestyle has alot more tricks than people think and also Flatlanders mix freestyle into street, for example-Fingerflip off stairs, or a trick I saw Rodney do in the latest transworld A Handstand kickflip to nosemanual on a box!!!!! The guys a fucking madman!

yeah, i'm familiar with it, though i didn't know it was called "flatland" now. i'm old school. i think any kind of skateboarding is cool. but i always thought freestyle was kind of limiting.. you can do whatever you want in any kind of skating. with freestyle, you're limited to flat land tricks. kick flip stuff and all that.

but Rodney Mullen is the shit. no doubt.
Skatealex1 Posted - 06/13/2004 : 17:54:11
Floop theres a big Flatland Scene right now and yes Flatland is what Rodney does alot! But there are tons of videos and even a forum on flatland and a trick tip website called bobstricktips.com

If you want any cool flatland videos to buy let me know!
Also some people call it freestyle cause u do whatever u want, It's a more fun way of skateing !

i would hope that any street skater is also doing his or her share of boardslides/tailslides/noseslides/slappy grinds etc.. are you talking about freestyle skating (a la Rodney Mullen?) does anyone really do handstands anymore? ie. "ho hos"
Skatealex1 Posted - 06/13/2004 : 14:17:47
Not if that skater skates flatground (which is an underground style of skaeting which consists of handstands truckstands and caspers)

you can always tell a wannabe skater when they have zero scratches on the bottom of their board.

i think it's funny that it's so trendy now. it makes me that much more cool that i'm an expert skateboarder, and more desirous to the female species.

Birmingham is full of them. When I was 15 (oh so many years ago) I used to hang out with the skate lads for around two months because they seemed to be the only ones around with any vague sense of alternatism. After two months and many bruised shins I, the girl! could ollie, and reverse ollie (I found the reverse way easier) then I discovered my evil twin and abandoned these trivial pursuits to play with roadkill and stuff

but now it is cool to be alt and it drives me crazy. Have you seen those horrible teenagers who wander around in vests displaying their "self harm" Grr.
