Third grade field trip to some pioneer type park. Candle making is fun.

I've made a candle in the Boy Scouts before. Just take a string and a bucket of melted crayons. Keep on dipping until all of the layers make a pretty candle. Okay, so not so pretty, but it works!

Man! I had no idea I was getting myself into such a juvenile hobby, haha. Hopefully some harder style candles can be somewhat challenging.

Me too. I made a pair of candles (one on each end of the string) maybe 30 years ago at summer camp. They were white.

It was fun, but playing capture the flag was way more fun.

I am with apl. I have made candles but I was a kid and I don't remember much. Except you have a string and you dip and dip and dip (why does that sound dirty?) until the candle is big enough. Repetitive and fun!

I actually made a candle with my youngest sister a couple weeks ago. It was just sheets of wax that you roll into a candle, but we tried to make it a bit more creative by adding a wavy top/bottom border in different colours and then cutting out wax shapes from another colour and sprinkling liberally around the whole thing.

I bought a candle making kit at a yeard sale when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I made some cool candles with it, it was pretty easy for the simple kinds (no taffy stripe-carving weirdness for me). Word of advice: wax goes everywhere. Even if you are careful. Don't use on or near anything you care about. Also, an additional caveat from my 8 year old self - it doesn't look hot, but it is. Don't put your finger in it.

Cool guys!
Yeah mission, i'm sure making a basic candle isn't all that hard, but is it difficult to start to make cool colors, and scents??

And would you just make a mold then pop out a candle? or would you pour the wax into it's own glass thingy and keep it in that?

I love this forum.

I made some candles, but I was an "ickle" girl of 7 or 8, so I'm sorry I don't have much to offer in the advice category. It wasn't very hard though, from what I can remember. They were the really cool colored layer kind that you carve down into and the rolls of wax spiral down in taffy-like ribbons.

hi!
yeah I used to make loads (but that was a good few years ago and not something I usually admit to now!)
It's quite easy if you've got some good moulds... anything specific you want to know?...

A friend does this for a living, making pretty parafin wax candles - some pretty neat designs!

Sorry i don't know any more tho..
