Here (Sacramento) his death was the lead story on the news (before the Reagen marathon) and at each commercial break they showed him performing.

Posted - 06/11/2004 : 13:31:30 He survived the segregated South as a destitute blind (from glaucoma) orphan. That was pretty amazing.
And his performance in "Blues Brothers" is unparalleled. That boy rocked and had a soul a mile wide. I feel really sad.

Posted - 06/11/2004 : 07:06:15 Two days ago, I got this picture of Ray Charles e-mailed to me. I was going to use it as part of my signature, with the caption: "Join the Cult of Ray, and your eyes will be opened." The picture was of Ray Charles holding a microphone singing, and he was singing into the corded end of a microphone. I e-mailed the picture to a few more friends, and then he died the next day. I felt kind of bad.

Posted - 06/10/2004 : 14:27:30 Depressing. I was just thinking about him last week cause there's a commercial for the Powerball Lottery thing (I think it might just be a Pennsylvania thing) in which he's singing and playing piano with a horribly cheesy, very 80's-like backing band (with a violin player...and there's not even violin in the song), and it got me thinking "my god, what the hell happened to his career." It's a shame it came to doing shit commercials like that...ah well.

Posted - 06/10/2004 : 13:40:43 I just heard this. I would say - of any decade. Ray Charles was ace, and way cooler than Stevie Wonder. Respect.
