Here are the lyrics of one of my favorite songs, Crimson and Clover by Tommy James :

Ah, now I don't hardly know her
But I think I could love her
Crimson and clover

Ah when she comes walking over
Now I've been waitin' to show her
Crimson and clover over and over

Yeah, my mind's such a sweet thing
I wanna do everything
What a beautiful feeling
Crimson and clover over and over

What is the meaning of this song? In an interview, Tommy James declared it means nothing. I think it's a cryptic desription of losing virginity. What do you think?

And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.

"Gibson and Glover over and over..."

Obviously a paean to the Lethal Weapon series.

I was watching monster and this song came on and I had to stop the film and get the song, it is a blindingly good song.

“I want to be a star!” I cried
They said, “You’re overqualified.
Why don’t you learn to tune your damn guitar?”

i think it's about wanting to expose yourself to a blind person

I always thought the song was about sex, but I also always thought the first line in the last verse was

"Yeah, and I'm not such a sweet thing.."

of course, that worked with Joan Jett singing it...

Thanks for clarifying.
I love how the tremolo on the vocal at the end starts out of sync, goes in sync and then goes out of sync...good old Fender tremolo.
I miss my Super Reverb.

This thread is making me feel ... I dunno. Confused?
Schizophrenic? Like there's two things going on at the same
time. Or something.

Excuse me. Um. I have never given the lyrics much thought
but now that Adnan has posted them, yes, I see the point. Good point.

Anybody hear Joan Jett's cover?

Losing your virginity in a field of clovers...

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...

sounds like your standard stalker song to me

I look like the kind of guy who pimps his sister not just for the money, but because he hates her

I too think this song is about losing ones virginity. In fact I hope to be playing it if I ever lose mine.

Jimmy Eat World wrote a song called 'A Praise Chorus' that incorporated some of the lyrics from this song. Just thought I'd share that with you all.

The original was actually written by Tommy James and Peter P Lucia Jr

It's a great song. Reminds me of my former roommate Don who loved the song. He's a very cool guy.

I think crimson and clovers just a lyric depicting happiness, so its just about whatever, i dont think its about sex tho, but it could be who knows.

I think every song is about losing virginity.

Except the ones that aren't.
