Now, I know many of you will not have the slightest interest in this, being unaware of the joys of football, but for those who are in the know: here's where you can vent your joy, your frustration, your wonderment, and your general overly biased opinions on the beautiful game.

So, we have one week to go until the festival of happiness that is Euro 2004.
Clearly, we have favourites: France firstly (probably having the top two players in the world right now); Italy are looking good; You can never rule out Germany or Spain; and of course England, who looked good tonight beating Iceland 6-1.
Point of note: Wayne Bridge, scoring left-back, is from my hometown. Which makes him cool.

Apart from England, I'm backing Latvia at 500-1. They do have a secret weapon in the ace Marian Parhars.

So: England fans, answer me these. 4-4-2 or Diamond? Why the continued presence of Heskey and Owen Hargreaves? Is Rooney the Next Big Thing? Whats our chances?

Neutrals: who do you fancy? Will France sweep all before them? Anyone else even have a chance?

Discuss.

Very funny indeed. Who cares if Mikey invented it or not? It's like Nirvana ripping off the Pixies.
GypsyDeath Posted - 07/08/2004 : 08:53:24
Mikey, I am beginning to suspect that your use of such jokes has been copied from another, funnier source?

Can one man come up with all of this? hmmm. Suspicious.

Just thought I'd throw that in there...

Thanks Tre. As I said elsewhere, I'll be here all week.

Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 07/07/2004 : 11:12:00

A father entered his daughter's bedroom and saw a letter on the bed.

With the worst premonition, he read it with trembling hands.

Dear Mum and Dad,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm telling

you that I've eloped with my new boyfriend. I've found real love and he

is so nice. Especially with all his piercings, scars, tattoos, and his

big motorcycle. But it's not only that, I'm pregnant, and Ahmed said

that we will be very happy in his trailer in the woods. He wants to

have many more children with me and that's one of my dreams.

I've learned that marijuana doesn't hurt anyone and we'll be growing it

for us and his friends. They're the one's providing us with all the

cocaine and ecstasy we could ever want. In the meantime, we'll pray for

science to find the AIDS cure, so Ahmed gets better. He deserves it.

Don't worry about money. Ahmed has arranged for me to be in films that

his friends Leroy and Jamal make in their basement. Apparently I can

earn £50 a scene. I get a £50 bonus if there are more than three men in

the scene, and an extra £100 if they use the horse.

Don't worry Mum. Now I'm 15 years old, I know how to take care of

myself. Someday I'll visit you and Dad so that you can meet your

grandchildren.

Your loving daughter,

Aimee

p.s: Dad, it's not true. I'm watching TV at a neighbour's house. I

just wanted to show you that there are worse things in life than

ENGLAND GETTING BEAT ON F*CKING PENALTIES AGAIN,.

I love you.

Aimee

wohhooo. Greece won. yeah, ok, So i didnt actually watch it all, and havent really any interest, but I wanted greece to win. Mostly because they were better looking than portugal, and its much more fun when a team loses when playing in their own country.

Just thought I'd throw that in there...
benji Posted - 07/05/2004 : 01:09:54
yeah, it was a fabulous game, and greece thoroughly deserved to win - they just shut down portugal soo much.

big year for the greeks.

i sure hope so, but no hard feelings against portugal regardless the final result. i prefer losing against them instead of some fancy team like italy or france that are all about looks and nothing about football. it will be the best game of the season, if not for the class but for the pure antagonism. watch it and please hail for greece. we will need all the support we can get...

some thoughts on this final:

greece the most underestimated of all teams managed to eliminate 3 of the favourites of the tournament (spain, france, czech rep) and to win against portugal on the opening match. surprise? only to some extent. we qualified as first after eliminating shevchenco's ukraine and forcing spain to the second place after winning in their home. and nobody seamed to notice. our game is not spectacular, it may be even boring but what counts is the result. sacrifice and tactics not techical ability is our force. we play like the italians or the germans would want to play only better. way better. i'm tired of people who say that we don't merit this and that other teams should be in our place. why? what did the fancy spanish do more than us? and didn't we beat zidane's and henry's france, the same france that won against england in the most fortunate way? is it our fault if the czechs couldn't manage the pressure and failed to score 3 goals as everyone expected? imo the best teams made it to the final. maybe not the best technically but the more motivated and concetrated teams. in the beginning of this tournament nobody considered portugal as a possible finalist either. they made it too. they eliminated their opponents cynically (and with more style than we did) and here they are. here in italy many journalists insist that we both suck and that this is a stupid final. and haristeas sucks(he scores only because he's lucky), dellas sucks (he's not a regular at AS roma), giannakopoulos sucks, rui costa sucks, ronaldo is still just a bet for the future, couto sucks. what i see is jealousy. i'm tired of the big names that end to ruin the beauty of football. i adore zidane's magic and totti's class and buffon's saves but what's the use if they can't play in a winning team? what's the use if instead of france and italy they keep talking about individual players and their extravagant behaviour? like totti's hair, vieri's girfriend, beckham's tattoos, etc etc. totti sent at home after a game, vieri scores the beauty of 0 goals and ruins more than 15 crosses, beckham fails not one but two important penalties. more gossip than football, and they merit to stay at home. so i dig this final, i am going to cry if we win it and even if we loose it, but i will be happy anyway.
it will not be boring, it can't be when two countries are watching the game and risk a heart attack. in greece 200.000 people were on the streets 5 minutes after the game against the czech rep. and i immagine that in portugal are as much excited as we are if not more. two underdogs that will fight for their first important victory ever. not teams that want "another" trophy, not players that want to show of in order to get a better contract. just football.
may the best team win.

Dellas used to play for sheffield united he once scored a goal from about 40yards into the top corner and he hit it at about 1000miles per hour. This was also scored in the last minute to grab us 3 points. He will forever be remembered for that.....and nothing else. Sold on and became one of the best defenders in the world. I love my club!

The Greeks will play ten men behind the ball at all times, the Portugeuse will continue to attempt attacks, Figo will get pissed off with the failed attempts, the game will end nil-nil, nothing doing in extra time and the Portugeuse will win 6-5 in a shoot-out. Sorry to disappoint anyone who might have been looking forward to watching the match.

yeah, who would have thought....

great game the greeks.
the czechs had a fair few chances and a penalty-query denied, but these greeks just take every single opportunity given to them.
they're fabulous.
i wanted the czechs to win the tournament....now i want greece too.
