Posted - 05/28/2004 : 06:18:32 I've been in the same job for nearly four years now, and i'm at the point where i really need a change, or i'll go mad. I'm thinking of taking a couple of months, maybe august and september, to do something ? I don't have a hell of a lot of money, but would love to do something completely different than my normal life in Ireland will allow. Bus across the states ? live like a hermit in alaska ? has anyone had any similar experience ? it would probably mean giving up my job, and having to look for something when i come back.......but, i'm prepared for that. any suggestions welcome..........has anyone expierienced the alaskan highway ? cheers, Retch.
This ain't no holiday. |

Posted - 05/29/2004 : 07:57:44 I quit my job in September b/c it was HELL. Then in October I went to the UK (saw Frank twice - whee!) and traveled around a bit. I JUST found a new full time job, but the time off has been worth it. Hard and LONGER than expected, but definetly worth it. So I say, go for it! Whatever IT is.
Travelling across the states sounds good, I have always wanted to do that.

Posted - 05/28/2004 : 22:30:21 You can come work for me if your want to and you are qualified...
I live right next to the commonly known 3rd world country ("derek") called West Virginia (not 3 syllables but 5 with a twang)
But you're welcome to come
No hustle and bustle really
I'd like to go to Ireland though, I am 25% Irish I think if that means anything, and I used to be into Sinead

Posted - 05/28/2004 : 20:22:43 A trip across Australia or Chile. Or maybe a US coast to coast car trip. Or a trip in Sub saharian Afrika or the Transiberian railway. There are too many interesting places to visit, as long as you avoid turist locations. If you don't care about finding a new job at your return go for it. New experiences can't do you but good, specially if you are tired of your everyday life.
