Hey, couldnt be bothered to dig the thread up again...so i made another one (yeah yeah yeah, slap my wrist if you must).
Here are the final details.
On SATURDAY 6th JUNE we are going to meet. Yes, that right.
I was thinking we could meet in KINGS CROSS at PLATFORM 9 3/4. (for the record, im not a harry potter fan).
For those who dont know where that is, when youre at kings X, head towards platforms 9,10 &11.
You will need to walk alongside platform 8 (shops and pubs shld be on your left), past the little bridge, and there will be a left hand turning, to which you can access platforms 9,10 & 11.
You will have to go outside to do this.
Before you reach the door to these platforms, on the left there is a sign saying ' PLATFORM 9 3/4'.
I was thining about meeting for, lets say 1.30? hows that with everyone?
Also, maybe swap descriptions/pics or phone numbers so we can actually know what eachother looks like?!

Steve! They changed music for ME. The Catholics haven't and never will. And I think you rubbishing my point is a little unfair. If I told you all that I love Westlife, people here would (and be honest now) tell me they are shit and no way near as important/influencial/generally musically challenging as The Catholics/Pixies. I think the basis of my point, as to why I think the Pixies are more important to the progression of rock music than the Catholics is a sound one. It's just my opinion.

interesting. What if you read it in an article then listened to them then thought they were great. This is not I would like to point out how I got into the pixies, an ex introduced me and my love of the pixies lasted so much longer than my love of the ex. I like them because they rock.
and yeah. I hate the beatles, and all wannabes (namely bloody oasis)

Thats what the pixies do to me.
Frank black's solo stuff is like a sexy fizzy bath bomb from lush, Its really nice and seriously special but it lacks the bile spunk and vitriol of the pixies.

you shouldn't believe your favourite bands hype man. yes they were kind of important and changed stuff, but in the whole scale of things, they weren't that amazing and there are far more influential bands than the pixies and bands previous which were doing similar things. so many bands have some sort of claim to influence, and all their fans like to quote lots of famous people saying good things.
it is a pretty lame reason to like a band. because they are influential. that's why most beatles fans piss me the fuck off.
and mike, you should really get teenager of the year. it is a masterpiece. |

Did it change anything in music? Has it influenced anyone of any note? Has it influenced any at all? Is it pushing music forward? Is it the finest example of that genre of music?
If you can honestly answer yes to any of these then fair enough, that's your opinion. As odd as it is.
The Pixies can definitely claim to have achieved all of the above. I know musical critics are hardly a great way to add weight to a point of view, but I am pretty confident that every professional music critic alive would agree that the Pixies are far more important a band that the Catholics. Far more important. As would a greater percentage of the world's musically knowledgable population.
As for any one stand alone album, well I don't own EVERY Catholics album, so it would be unfair for me to enter into that debate. Suffice to say however, I would be AMAZED if I agreed with you on this. AMAZED, considering what I think of the ones I do own, and what I think of all the Pixies albums!
Put simply, and this is obviously only my opinion, the Pixies were, and still are, the greatest band of all time.
I kinda like them.

I think teenager of the year as a stand alone album ranks above any stand alone pixies album. It's just got such a great vibe and I find it the easiest to get my mates into.

Oh I have Frank Black, it's his finest work outside of the Pixies that I have heard. By a long way too. I guess this may be 'cos I suspect that many of these songs were written right aftert the Pixies split, perhaps even during their time and perhaps intended for them.
Show Me Your Tears seems very average so far. Dog in Sand is pretty good though, I like that one.

really good albums are Frank Black, Teenager of the Year, Dog in the Sand, Show Me Your Tears. The rest takes quite a bit of effort to reall like, at least that'swhat i found. |

Dammit, where were you on saturday?? I could have done with support in the Pixies vs Frank arguement, ;) (actualy I like the two almost equally) Great day anyway, and a pleasure meeting you guys. I was feeling a tiny bit light headed by the time we got to Brixton (not that, that shit skunk had much effect) but seeing the Pixies again quickly sucked away any innebriation. Then it was back to hotel for more drinking and one of the best surprises of the night, a full on bar brawl!! Which I've heard is a rare thing in Chelsea Harbour.
