Posted - 05/01/2004 : 13:55:38 What's up with all the pirate bands in NYC? I was at Siberia last night and one of the bands playing was the Jollyship Whiz Bang, a pirate band. And in the audience, I ran into two guys that I kind of know, Devin and Jason, who are in another pirate band, the Swarmy Pirates. They were there doing recon, because apparently in a week or two there's going to be a Pirate Battle of the Bands!, with five or six different pirate bands.
A month ago, I didn't even know that a single pirate band existed, let alone six of them. I really don't get it. Accordians and singing bout the sea. Why. At least they don't dress up.
During a smoke break outside (FU bloomberg)I had a rather involved talk with Jason about the Pixies and FB, so at least the pirates have taste. Nice guys, but still, weird.

Posted - 05/04/2004 : 02:14:48 My band has a song called "Gyarr." That's a pirate song. Though we're not a pirate band. But my friend wanted a pirate wedding, and the bride would have agreed if I had amputated both of my legs to make room for peg legs. Oh well.

Posted - 05/03/2004 : 10:01:21 a little bit of pirate humor.
A pirate walks into a bar with this enormous steering wheel stuck down his pants. The bartender can’t help but ask, “What’s with the steering wheel?” “ARRRRGGH,” the pirate answers, “it’s drivin’ me nuts.”
Have you heard about the new pirate movie? It’s rated AARRRRGGH! And do you know why? Because of all the booty!
How did the pirate stop smoking? He used the patch!
What Star Wars character is really a pirate? AARRRRGGH-2 D-2!
How much did the pirate pay for his peg leg and hook? An arm and a leg!
What kind of socks does a pirate wear? AARRRRGGHyle!

Posted - 05/03/2004 : 09:27:37 I love that type of music. Am I the only one on here that used to listen to Ron Gilbert's soundtrack for Monkey Island? That reminds me, we have a song we currently don't have a name for (we call it the Sea Chanty). We'll have to bring that one out again. There's also The Blarney Stone by Ween which is as much a sea chanty as a good ol' Irish Drinking Song. Well, OK, it's more a drinking song, but what's the difference...

Posted - 05/03/2004 : 09:15:34 WOW! What a coincidence. I just started a "Butt Pirate" band. I think I'm (it's just me right now) going to be huge. I'm on clogg's, and kazoo. I'm currently opening for the Donkey show at Uncle Pepe's in Tijuana. My next gig is 11:00 (am) this Saturday. Come check it out, I rock!
