Bush's "deep disgust" at abuse of Iraqis

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush says he is disgusted by the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. troops after pictures depicting the acts were published and broadcast around the world.
"I shared a deep disgust that those prisoners were treated the way they were treated. Their treatment does not reflect the nature of the American people. That's not the way we do things in America," Bush said on Friday after photographs depicting the acts of abuse were published and broadcast around the world.
"I didn't like it one bit," Bush added in the White House Rose Garden after talks with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin.
Yeah right... like he really gives a fuck! What about the abuse of prisoners at Camp X, does he not feel disgusted about that?? Bush is such a fucking prick!

I'm very much anti-war, but I don't know that I'm necessarily smart enough to come up with other viable solutions to the problems in the world today. Unfortunately, it seems like the government isn't either.
While modern wars are fought with more advanced technology than ever before, the basic idea seems to be the same one that's been used for centuries, and it strikes me as being outdated. It's played out like a game ("Whoever kills the most people on the opposing team wins!") and has no regard for human life, turning the human beings that the governments on both sides are SUPPOSED to be protecting into faceless pawns, fighting for some nebulous "good of the nation." It's pretty sickening, when you think about it.

We've accomplished so much in this super cool war, I'm just amazed. Everyone's "quality of life" has improved, we're all proud of our nation, we're showing compassion to our enemies, people are dying for a righteous cause, you just can't ask for more. Ever since 2000 when bush was elected, it's like he put this country in a machine that makes it awesome!
I hope you knew that was sarcasm. Remember when we used to complain about Clinton? Well when he was president, things were going one hell of a lot better, and he can't be called the best president we've ever had. But I mean, damn, things aren't what they used to be. We never get any good presidential candidates anymore, the system is supposed to be open to nearly everyone, but I've seen more variety in monarchies. I'd just like the bullshit to be toned down a bit, maybe get this country and it's people to actually notice real problems and try for real solutions instead of the cool ones. |

The way I think you support the troops is to never give them grief for doing their job. To root for them in every firefight, in every combat situation. To hope that they succeed in every mission, that every single one of them comes back alive.
That being said, I don't think it's unpatriotic or that you are "not supporting the troops" to protest or speak out against those who are sending the troops into harm's way. They way I look at it, the protests toward the administration are saying "Don't send in the troops", but once they get sent we have to say to the troops, not to the administration, "Alright guys, get in there, kick some ass, and get back safe."
With Iraq, I don't believe we should have even gone in there in the first place. But now that we are there, we have to succeed. Part of the reason 9/11 happened was because we pulled out of Somalia after the Black Hawk Down incident. Bin Laden has said that he saw that as evidence of the US' weakness. We can't stand death. That was part of what emboldened him. I think WWII showed that we understand sacrifice, it’s just that, apart from Afghanistan, there really hasn’t been too many wars that the US has gotten involved in that was worth the sacrifice since WWII.
It sucks that we got into Iraq in the first place, but now that we are there, we have to pick up the mess. If not, the Arab world will continue to see us as weak bully.

Kerry is more of an idiot than Bush? Please explain that. Rides in a private jet? You expect him to fly on Southwest? What do you think Bush is flying in?
$1000 haircut? I don't know if that's true, but even if it is not as bad as driving the economy into the ground and starting a war over falsified claims.
Flip-flopping? Example please.
Kethcup spending? Is that some kind of obscure billion dollar missle defense program that has never shown any effectiveness?
Calling Kerry as bad as Bush reminds me of Nader claiming there was no difference between Gore and Bush. He's delusional if he still believes that and he apparently does. |

An "I feel for you" look? I'm certain that at 55mph, in the dark, they picked up on that.
Why not a thumbs-up? Why not allow them to interpret it however they wanted? I doubt your thumbs-up would occur to them in that split-second decision whether to pull the trigger or not.

I believe some men and women join the military to gain skills and experience that will serve them later in life.
I believe most men and women join the military so they can enjoy a little job security and a reasonable wage. Food, shelter, health care, training and a niche are provided.
I mean, after leaving the service they're wide open to attend college.
Why wouldn't that seem attractive to someone who wasn't born into white, middle-class USA?
Why the hell are these people villans to some of you?
What are any of you doing to provide alternatives?

The sad part is that Kerry is a just as much, if not more of an idiot (gulf-stream flying, $1,000.00 haircut, flip-flopping, kethcup spending) candidate.
It's nice to know that in a country of this size, the best we can do are these two yahoo's.?

Certainly not the best article I've ever read as he makes the same point about a bazillion times but the idea is there. They are not draftees. We shouldn't spit on them but we sure as hell shouldn't make them out to be the heros they aren't.

They were all looking in the car at us, almost as if looking for a reaction of support. I didn't know what to do. You want headache? I'm thinking about not supporting the troops. Everyones says its horrible whats happening in Iraq (cool word, iraq, btw) and that we shouldn't be there, but regardless of what you think, you HAVE to support the troops. Well, it was assholes in the sixities that didn't support the troops, that actually hated and dispised them, that helped turn public opinion against the war and got us to pull out of viet nam. Part of me is beginning to think that supporting the troops inables this war. Unfortunately, I can't committe to this view point, cause I know that many of those troops don't even want to be there in the first place and are seriously being let down and lied to by this administation. So dispite images of troops mistreating prisioners in abu-gazer(sp???)I do feel for them, and want to see them honored tonight on television. Its the Bush War I hate, and sometimes its tempting to blame those who carry out of that war. I guess my point is that I find it hard to appreciate a noble sacrafice in the name of an unjust cause. The deaths on both sides are so futile. These people didn't have to die. Its all so unjust.

That's a nicely written article...while he does seem overly bitter, walking a thin line between appropriate and inappropriate, and perhaps irrational, he does make several good points. His closing statement is great as well. What happened on Night Line last night?

First of all, the writer of that article is a complete jackass. To say a man who enlists in the service got what was coming to him when he is killed in action is beyond asinine. Secondly, he seems to be trying to make this Vietnam era argument when the soldiers were blamed and called baby killers. Hey fucker, the American people learned their lesson from that and now only direct any anger and frustration toward the administration which send the soldiers, not the soldiers themselves.
Lastly, Pat Tillman died in Afghanistan. We have a legitimate reason to be in Afghanistan. The Taliban sheltered Al Quida which conducted war against us. We in turn conducted war against them.
Say what you want about the whole mess in Iraq, but we do have a moral authority to be conducting operations in Afghanistan.

Sinclair Broadcast Group is pulling Nightline tonight so people won't see the names and faces of the dead US soldiers. First the guys are killed and then Sinclair doesn't want people to hear about it. Bush didn't attend any services for them for PR reasons. They want to keep them faceless and nameless because no one will have compassion for a number. |
