been listing to take me down to the hospital by them, such an amazing song! love it! does any of their other stuff compare to this? anyone recommend an album by them?
Is it like today? Oh, oh, oh-oh. Then there followed days with kings, empires and revolutions. blood just looks the same when you open the veins. sometimes it was faith, power or reason as the cornerstone. but the furrowed brow has never left his face. he said, how did it come to this?

Ha! It finally happened. When I got to the sentence "Replacements drummer Chris Mars didn't want any part of this reunion...", I initially thought, "Wait, Chris Mars isn't a replacement drummer, he's the original drummer? OH WAIT!"

Wow! I haven't thought about the Replacements for awhile. Great band. I would say their best album is "Let it be" followed by "Pleased to meet me". I'll have to go buy some Replacements CDs now, as I had all their stuff on album or cassette tape. |

Great topic. I just picked up Hootenany the other day and it's been blasting in my car non-stop since. Well, I've listened to a few other things in my car here and there, so almost non-stop. Anyway, yeah, Hootenany is a fun drinkin' album, good party stuff, but there's some stuff on there which really shows the Replacements were heading in a much more important direction than merely punk, like Willpower and that one tune which is just Westerberg playing to a drum machine with a phaser on the guitar, can't remember the title at the moment. I love the Beatles remake, Mr. Whirly, with the intro ripped directly from Strawberry Fields Forever and then the switch into the interpolation of Oh! Darling. Great album, lots of fun. And yes, Treatment Bound is a great song and the way it was recorded is perfect for the content of the song.
Really, any Replacements album has enough moments to justify it's existence, at least all that I've heard so far. Even the slick, overproduced, not-so-consistent Don't Tell A Soul has "Achin' To Be" and "Talent Show". I was just listening to All Shook Down in my car earlier today (while taking a break from Hootenany) and that has a lot of great songs, too. "Sadly Beautiful," "All Shook Down," "Merry Go Round," "One Wink At A Time," "Attitude" so many good songs. In fact, I need to just shut up cuz I could just ramble on and on about the Mats.
My favorite album is probably Let It Be, but Tim and Pleased to Meet Me are both awesome, too. Really, those three albums combined are the holy trinity in my mind.

My favorite Replacements album is Let It Be. I have often sited Hootenanny as being the greatest drinking album ever, plus the artwork is fucking great and very retro, I think my favorite song on that album is Treatment Bound though, the last song on the album just gives me shivers. I also love the song they had about Johnny Thunders titled "Johnny's Gonna Die" fucking great.

I've heard Let It Be and Pleased To Meet Me. The former strikes me as more creative/diverse, the latter as more consistent/catchy. Really good albums at any rate.
Yesterday I bought a tape of All Shook Down for 50 cents. |

the replacements were one of the best rock & roll bands ever
imo anything they have recorded is worth listening to
i also really like the material from paul westerbergs solo career

I really like all the albums up to Tim. Crazy drunken punk rock. I think my fave is still Stink. Lots of cussing about adolescent problems but it doesn't come off as contrived. Fuck school fuck school fuck my school...
