I don't have much time for posting right now, but he was for sure one of the most talented American writers, though not a genius like Burroughs, imo.

I liked Pi.

I really liked the film (Requiem). Aronofsky did a great job on that one (I didn't like his first film, Pi, which I perceived like a copy of Eraserhead). I don't take any drugs (that's probably why I'm so fascinated by the books who cover the subject) but some guys who do told me that he really describes what you see when you're stoned.

I've forgotten he wrote Requiem. The film was pretty good.

I saw Last Exit before I read the book. The film made a huge impression on me way back when I saw it but the book was even more powerfull. I must read it again soon.

Read Requiem after seeing the film and thought itīd have been somewhat dimmed for it - having seen the film first does that for me now and then - but found it quite powerful and harrowing nonetheless.

Did'nt hear about that. Never read any of his works. Ellen Burstyn interviews him on the DVD of the 'Requiem' movie: he has a small cameo in that, too. Would'nt mind seeing 'Last Exit To Brooklyn'. Maybe I should check out the book first!

The newspapers over here have been completely silent about Selby's death too.
Have you read anything else by him that is worth checking out?

I can't believe nobody's interested in this.

Very sad news to know the creator of Tralala and Georgette has died. Thanks to Lou Reed's enthusiasm for Selby's Last Exit To Brooklyn I read it and it was unforgettable.
