To me, this means nothing. Pollard simply won't be releasing stuff under the name Guided By Voices anymore. GBV have had about 50 different members and none of them last more than a few years each time, so it's no biggy.

lets not forget that GBV is a big name and Robert Pollard (or Circus Devils, LifeGuards, Lexo and the Leapers) isn't. GBV are booked in the nice venues over here, maybe Pollard won't. GBV are on a big label, Pollard (as far as I know) isn't. GBV records were always more band records, than Pollard solo. It does mean a thing! It just doesn't mean the end of everything! But to say that it isn't a big shift, is (in my eyes) not completely right!

Posted - 04/25/2004 : 21:34:43 I'm glad Pollard is willing to make a big change like this. I love GbV more than anything, but I've wondered how long he could keep up his tourin' and drinkin' (and drinkin' and drinkin') lifestyle for quite a while now. I'm feeling more wistful than sad about it, 'cause I really think it will end up being a good thing for his music. |

Posted - 04/25/2004 : 15:05:49 pollard will continue to work and to do almost the same thing as GBV - i doubt it'll mean a drop off of productivity - in fact, it'll probably mean even more releases - having other people around only slows him down
i am glad however that i got to see them once (and perhaps i'll get to one more time)

Posted - 04/25/2004 : 13:29:26 Damn! Well let's hope they will have lots of reunion things! This sucks! Of course this is not the real end, Bob Pollard will make tons of albums as a solo artist, but I certainly don't like it.
Well ok, one band comes back together, one splits up.

Posted - 04/25/2004 : 12:30:05 OH my god! this means I HAVE to go to ALL their gigs this year!! Sorry jim -I cant come over at the end of the year for your birthday and christmas - GBV are on their last tour!!
I think in the long run - even though its qquite sad, that it is a good thing. An artist who knows when to astop, and is content and happy with what the have achieved within that era, is one i have uttermost respect for. UNlike some who just keep going when everyone hates them, - or doesnt have the maturity to end it like this, and so shoots their brains out - or even the ones who do reunion tours - not mentioning any names
I love you for what I am not, I did not ask for what I have got.
You will get used to me. Welcome to your new joy. |
