I know they don't look similar, and their voices are quite different, but I have pretty much the same feeling when listening to each of those two. Does anyone share my opinion?
Btw, for those who wonder who she is, Chan Marshall = Cat Power.

Posted - 04/23/2004 : 04:45:28 Chan Marshall is a little flaky. saw her live about a month ago and she was spot on for the first hour of the show, but after that she just went uber-weird. now, i'm a HUGE fan of cat power's so knew what to expect, but it was something else to witness it first hand. if you toook the first hour by itself, it was probly one of the shows of the year, but for if you include the rest, a bit of a disaster.
but man can she sing. and she's a stunner to boot.

Do not forget the band with the most diverse sound ever. Modern Talking. Each new hit of theirs sounded completely unlike the previous one. Each new album cover had a completely new concept to it. And their hairstyles are awe inspiring.
Yep, my "Tom Waits is diverse" post was just about as stupid is this one.....

Posted - 04/21/2004 : 12:13:33 I've been listening to this record again and this time around it sounds a whole lot better than the first few tries. The quiet parts reminds me of the quiet bits on Belly's Star.
Thanks for mentioning this album, it is going to stay in the cd player for a longer while now.

Posted - 04/21/2004 : 02:42:53 Female Tom Waits? I think this is where Derek makes a cracking image of Tom Waits in lipstick isn't it?
I know what you mean about 'the feeling' though Adnan. I've never noticed before, but, you know, now you mention it....

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 22:01:42 Yeah, Chan Marshall is especially cute when she has shorter hair. Hip, cute, arty female indie musicians with short dark hair and freckles. Damn, it don't get much better than that.

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 15:19:42 Well, I know their music is different, but it's just that I have this same feeling...
Chan Marshall is really cute, btw.

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 00:38:59 I've been having a hard time getting into the last Cat Power album, I've given up on it but will try again later. It often helps to give a cd a rest for a month or so and then suddenly it all makes sense. You Are Free is certainly not as diverse as any of Tom Waits' albums.

Posted - 04/19/2004 : 21:41:30 It sure as hell wasn't her looks that were turning you off. Chan Marshall is one sexy lady.
I like What Would the Community Think and Moonpix. I haven't heard much other than those, though.

Posted - 04/19/2004 : 16:35:42 I've never been able to sit through a Cat Power song.
I can't remember what was turning me off.
I've, um, been exposed to the Covers record and You Are Free (?)
