Sunburned Hand of the Man (similar to Jackie-O? ...) is playing tonight here in Columbus. Any fans or anybody have any info on this group? Casual searching brought up a Bitchfork review comparing them to The Dead and Phish, with references to rainbo-afros and birkenstocks, and disco, but then also to Godspeed You Black Emperor, so I'm having some difficulty squaring all that. Are they too young and so just digging for 70s prog images from MTV?

I want live music that I don't HAVE to be on drugs to enjoy. I also don't want to have to work to ignore the several dozen e-heads arm-dancing and swarming in all around so I can get into an improv instrumental groove. Is this a lost cause, or something I can't miss?

The only temperature in Fahrenheit that means something to me is 451.

I haven't seen stars since my Christmas in Lapland. No stars here, only bars.

Hey, I just checked out the word "Lapony" on Google (probably bad translation from French "Laponie") and the first result was my post on this forum. I should improve my English.

Adnan, sorry to be so long getting back to you on that cigar question. We shared a Romeo and Julieta Cedros #3 last night. I like those a lot. There are a few people on the forum that have talked about ceee-gars here before. But don't you dare come upon some Cubans and turn around and sell them on ebay. Try smoking it, you'll like it!

No idea what the band was like...ended up staying home. It is very nice weather here now, about 72 degrees and a nice breeze. We looked at the stars (which are fading very quickly here due to development) and I saw a shooting star. The spring peepers were really goin' at it, and the planes were buzzing everywhere, pretending to be UFOs. I'm glad we stayed home.

Thank you for putting back your post, I feel more clever now.

I thought Coffee and cigarettes had already been released in the USA. Am I wrong?

Which kind of cigar do you smoke? I'm not very much into that, but my ex-girlfriend was in Cuba last summer and therefore I have a box of Romeo and Juliet cigars which I don't smoke. Are they good. Can I sell them on E-Bay and buy myself a new tooth brush or a steak knife or some other useful product?

Haha, feeling the smoke during the fresh air breaks. Here you go outside not to smell the smoke anymore.

Sorry Adnan -I replied and then deleted it, but not soon enough it seems. I'll paste it here, so you don't feel like you are going nuts.

Obviously, I need to be bothered. So I will go.

For example, we went to go see Squarepusher the other night, and managed to catch one of the opening acts, which was actually better than SP has become now. He was "the human beatbox" Kenny Muhammad The Human Orchestra. A-MAZ-ing. Made Squarepusher's once-envelope-pushing electronica sound flat, and I was sad for him. Kenny was a freak/force of nature. Best beatbox I have ever seen/heard. So maybe I will be surprised. Need to kill the inertia, and plus it's a beautiful day, that's a fact.

Or wait, we could also just sit on the deck, watch the sunset, smoke cigars and drink bourbon, and then play in the studio all night with the windows open...
-------------------------------------

You saw "Coffee and Cigarrettes"?!?! Where?!? I am very jealous.

I still don't know if I want to go, I heard some clips of their stuff finally, and I'm not sure they are anything more than an amateur jam-band. Not much ingenuity or ground-breaking, mostly the usual psychedelia and "Burning Man" style tribal drumming. I dunno. I expect mostly arm-waving strobe-moths and drunken idiots in the crowd, and they just get to me after so long.

To answer your question -yes I quit smoking, but a cigar once in 6 or more months is ok by me. It is really rough going to live shows and smelling the smoke during fresh air breaks -it has gone from foul-smelling back to tasty again. Arrrgh. I agree with the Iggy quote, many many times.

I feel like I'm replying to myself now.

I thought you quit smoking. I saw "Coffey and Cigarettes" the other day, and the line where Iggy says "we can have one, since we quit" is pretty much my state of mind.

I guess sometimes it's good to go and see bad live music. You see people who seem to enjoy the music and you feel so superior to them. Good for the self esteem.

I was thinking that exact thing, Adnan. Or I wasn't...who can say.

I'm a grumpy old man sometimes. I need to go see things that might bother me, but then I think, "why bother?".

Well, I think (yes I do) that it could be a lost cause that you can't miss. Or a missed cause that you can't lose.
