Posted - 04/02/2004 : 03:07:01 My local paper has been following a story over the last week or so regarding the poster being displayed around the town for the new Dawn of the Dead film. Some local people want the posters to be torn down. The vast majority seem to be in favour of leaving them up - i.e. if you don't like it, don't look at it. A local poll is split 13%:87% in favour of keeping them up. Story here:
http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=57711&command=displayContent&sourceNode=57238&contentPK=9281044
The paper has been inundated by responses from all over the world but especially America. Some responses here:

What do you think? My opinion is that, although the image is unsavoury, it is hardly the worst thing that you are likely to come across during an average media filled day. The studio must be loving the free publicity.

Posted - 10/27/2004 : 20:01:06 I just watched the movie, it's pretty funny. I didn't think the Johnny Cash song really fit in for the opening credits.
And I loved the beginning, it's hilarious. It's all sweet like a Disney movie.
Plenty of gore, I got over that after the first scene.
Pretty fun movie, very sterotypical. "Fuck me harder Steve." The dialogue is classic.
And Jim Carrol's song at the end, it was a funny movie altogether.
No horror movie is complete without your friends grabbing you suddenly during the suspenceful moments, I hate that shit.

Posted - 04/03/2004 : 20:47:41 There is absolutely nothing wrong with that poster. When I first saw it I thought that it was the poster they were using to replace the original that was supposedly so horrible. If you didn't know that Dawn of the Dead was a zombie movie or the title was only in whatever language is above the English title you wouldn't even figure that this was a zombie movie.

Idiot? Who decides that? Read your words above, think about them, then go look in the mirror. Are you staring at a pathetic hypocrite? I hope you aren't the product of an American university. I pray you never end up in a position where you could influence/corrupt young minds. |

Posted - 04/02/2004 : 19:59:31 El Barto is as bad or worse than any of medias thought police. He locked one of my threads that contained no contriversial content in any stretch of the imagination. He is a perfect example of what happens when you give a short poser (no way that guys even slightly punk) a little power and the thinking that is behind the downfall of America. The only good thing about a guy like this is that his type led to punk rock and the free speech it offers. |

By the way, amen to everything you said. You got at least one witness to that testimony.

Posted - 04/02/2004 : 15:51:02 I was looking at some of the old posters or Dawn and Day of the dead on some collectors website and they're far more graphic. I'm waiting for Shaun of the dead to be released on the 9th and I intend to see them both in a big assed Zombierama! 2004 really is shaping up to be the year of the living dead what with Res 2 coming out later in the year. It's really sick how they they won't give old george the paltry amount he wants to make Dead reckoning. He invented the genre for fucks sake!

The new Dawn of the Dead is quite good. I enjoyed it a helluva lot. A big part of the films' success is that Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames are the two central characters in the film, both great actors who are still somewhat underappreciated despite having had roles in popular films. I actually enjoyed the remake more than the original.
I also just saw the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Not bad, but nowhere close to having the impact the first one did. But it was alright, as far as remakes go. The cinematography was great, but a big part of that is due to the fact that Daniel Pearl was the director of photography, as he was for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Posted - 04/02/2004 : 04:24:59 See, if you hadn't let your government take your guns from you, you could have killed your cattle yourselves. AND you would have been able to shoot anyone who tried to put up that poster on a billboard. Guns solve everything, don't they?
This argument is silly. It's a horror movie, it's supposed to be scary, you dumb gits.
I don't agree with Denis. It's not that poor woman's daughter on the picture. If the poster had shown an adult, would it give every single person who has lost a relative a right to ask for it (or even the film, 'cause some seem to make that jump quite readily) to be banned?
I feel sorry for her, but that would just be wrong.
Another thing is, this poster reminds me a lot of the one for Carpenter's "Village of the Damned" (yup, another remake), which featured not one but THREE spooky kids, and nobody had anything to say about it. Hell, even the original "Village of the Damned", in 1960, had one or more of these children staring at you from the poster. See 'em all here and be the judge.
Silly, I say.
