A mate was playing a B-52s best-of the other day, and it struck me that some of it sounded a little pixie-ish...that kind of off-key rock and roll vibe. In a list of 'Wacky American bands', I would add them in alongside Devo, Violent Femmes, They Might Be Giants, Pixies(I mean wacky in a positive sense, people!) and Weezer. Oh yeah, and maybe Dead Kennedys(And yes I know Jello is Canadian). REM are 'American' sounding, but they're not 'wacky' enough for the list. And Primus don't have that American rock and roll vibe goin' on. Wacky Canadian Bands-Nomeansno....er...that's it.

Oh right, forgot Ween. Oh yeah, of course, THE RESIDENTS! P.U.S.A are also a bit wacky in an American-stylee.

The Dead Milkmen definitely fall into the Wacky American Bands category. I'd say Ween deserve a slot in that category, too, though it is unfortunate that so many people perceive them as nothing but wacky and jokey when they are so much more.

Hmmm... gotta be some more. How about The Frogs? And what about the Presidents of the United States of America?

Okay....in fact, I had a feeling I subconsciously new it was'nt based in Canada. Some of those 'New Wave' bands had a wacky thing goin' on, i.e the 'kennedys' crazy surf solos.

Alternative Tentacles was run out of the SF Bay area. I'm not sure if it was located in the city or in the East Bay. Unfortunately I'm not at home so I can't look at my old albums to see the location of the shipping address.

Don't quite a few of those "wacky American bands" fit into the "new wave" category? Not that I'm generally a fan of labelling, so "wacky" is fine with me.

Is'nt that long-time Tim Burton collaborator Danny Elfman's band? I don't know they're stuff, but you can add them to the list!
